If you decide to do various height, be sure that they are either really tall or short… so that your guests can still talk to eachother.

This sounds lovely! I tried to find some inspiration for you, but can’t find pictures of purple glassware anywhere (not the usual wedding blogs or ebay), but I can picture what you are talking about.  Good luck finding the glassware you want!

As for what to put in it, I guess it depends on what your other wedding colors might be, but white or yellow flowers would be pretty. Also, one of the bees used large collections of glassware with candles and it was stunning!

Can’t wait to see what you come up with!

I am not really sure what you are concerned about them getting lost with.  The stemware?  If the stemware is colorless, I think the purple glass will stand out.

I bought the glass/ crystal bowls and vases for my centerpieces at a large party supply store.  I actually started desiging by gathering various items I saw and liked then returning to my mock-up in the center of one of the aisles.  (Luckily the store was not busy, although the few customers present were highly amused by my antics.)  If there is a large party supply store near you, you might start there and see what they have available in purple glass.

 Good luck!
