I have mine in a few weeks and no one mentioned that I wouldn’t be able to drive? Don’t you just drink the orange drink and they test your blood? I mean, I guess if you get faint after having blood drawn then having a driver is a good idea.

I just had the 3hr one and I drove myself. They didn’t even mention having him come or someone to drive me.

Yea no way.  I drove myself and was fine.  Just make sure to take something to eat afterwards (protein and some carbs) and you will be fine.

If for some reason you aren’t feeling comfortable with driving then hang out at the office for a while or have him come get you if necessary.

i had my glucose test last week and was fine to drive – my husband did not come with me to the appt. you should be fine. ps. they say you don’t have to change your diet before the test, but i suggest skipping sugar the day of just in case. it would suck to get a false positive and have to take the 3-hour test!

I’ve never heard of it not being okay to drive. I just did mine first thing in the AM and made sure to eat afterwards, if you’re super worried about it bring a granola bar or something to eat once it’s over.

I’ve had both tests, the 1 and 3 hour, and went by myself to both. I think it’s nice to have someone come b/c it’s so boring, but it’s not necessary.

I haven’t heard that you need someone to drive you. I would ask your doctor to be sure but otherwise you should be fine. Good luck 🙂

So my doc actually sent me how with the drink already mixed up and told me to have finished it between 30-45 minutes prior to getting to my appointment so I could just go have my blood drawn.  For me, there’s no waiting around.  Granted, I haven’t drug my husband to one of these 5 minute appointments since about 12 weeks where I had an ultrasound…

I had no problems driving, but I also took a snack with me so I could eat it as soon as they took my blood.

I agree with FutureMcBride about bringing a snack.  My blood pressure dropped a bit so I got dizzy, a snack would have helped but I was still fine driving home.

Just echoing what everyone else said, I drove myself home. I had an early glucose screening at 18wks & the regular one earlier this week. I ate a little fruit before the first one & didnt eat at all before the second one. I felt fine afterwards. I would take something to eat just in case you do feel sick after it’s over. I would also suggest taking a book to read (or something else to do) for the hour you have to wait.

I don’t think your husband needs to be there. I just drank the orange liquid and since my doctor’s office is downtown, I walked around and did errands and came back for my blood draw. My husband didn’t come with me.
