i’m more surprised it isn’t doing better, considering how many news outlets have picked up the story–even if 1 in every 10,000 donates a little bit for whatever reason, he’d have a few grand pretty fast.

I thought these GOFUNDME things were for desperate help. For instance, my husband’s stepfather has a GOFUNDME to help pay for his costly metatastic cancer treatments. (he and my Mother-In-Law retired to Mexico and medical bills add up quickly). That is a reason to have a GOFUNDME. Not this silliness.

See this irks my nerves! I made a gofundme page a few years ago for my cousin who’s mother was dying. My cousin had been involved in a tragic car accident a few years ago in which her sister had a heart attack at the wheel and crashed. Her sister died and it left my cousin paralyzed…and she was also pregnant at the time. Her son was born missing one leg and her husband ended up leaving them both after the baby was born. She lives alone with her disabled son. HORRIBLE!!!

Anyways her mom was put in the ICU for months and the medical bills and travel expenses were piling up(my cousin did not live in the same state as my aunt). And traveling is very hard on her due to the paralysis. Eventually my aunt died and my cousin had no money for the funeral expenses especially after everything else. We as a family helped as much as possible but couldn’t contribute anymore so I made the gofundme. Not many donated but then there are people like who the OP is talking about getting so many donations for rings, vacations, and non essential things for no good reason. I mean she greatly appreciated the little she received but it just wasn’t fair.

It is more common than you think, but nevertheless still totally unacceptable.

As others have pointed out, there was a Bee on here who did it, (won’t name them) and who very quickly deleted their post as they were pretty much put back in their box like the greedy chocolate they were.

A bee did this recently, but the backlash she received led to her taking the post down (on the bee at least, I didn’t investigate her gofundme). It was one of the first things I thought of when I saw her wedding recap post. Entitlement isn’t a good look on anyone.

So many things on GoFundMe these days that are just plain ridiculous. I once saw a GoFundMe for a college student’s outstanding bar tab that was preventing her from returning to her favorite bar “one last time for senior year.” It’s worth noting that this tab was for $150. Somehow she couldn’t come up with that on her own…

I have a friend who was driving her friend to work, a drunk driver hit them head on, instantly crushing and killing her friend. She will never be the same, she set up a gofundme to ease the payments of her medical bills and to help pay for a headstone for her friend. She’s relearning to walk, feed herself, and emotionally get through what has happened.

But sure, let’s make sure some one can purchase a $15k ring.

I am not usually someone who wants to rain on someone else’s parade, but….I think some priorities are out of whack.
