I graduated from college in 1999 and went to work at my current job (there was a 6 month internship in there, but mainly I’ve been at this job).
After working 8 years, I decided to go back to school – but still keep my job. My work was so flexible. I got 50% tuition rate because I am a university employee. I got to reduce my hours to 30 hours/week while I was in classes. It was freaking hard and every waking hour had to be productive all the time. But I did it! It took me 5 years. I had no engineering to start with and I did a graduate degree in engineering. Talk about challenging!
They told me I’d get a pay raise before I even started this endeavor. So I went for it. 2012 was coming either way. I graduated in this past May.
In the end, I received a 17% pay raise. I am so grateful it is finally all over with! I have no debt either. I only used $6k in loans for this entire grad school endeavor. I paid that off and the other $4k in undergrad loans after I sold my house when I got engaged.
This will probably be my last big pay raise for the rest of my career though!
