I don’t think it’s ever too early to shop, but I’d hesitate to buy something so far our from the date.

Girl look away!Just be warned if you go to a generic commerical store they will harass the living ish out of you with emails/phone calls until your honeymoon (because they make you fill out contact info before you appt). If you go to a higher end store you will most likely not get the best service if you give your actual wedding date because they will know you’re just trying dresses to try them on and they are unlikely to make a sale (and thus commission). P.S NOTHING wrong with that early shopping around. I think the more you look around, the better chances you’ll nail down exactly your bridal style!

My wedding is about the same time as yours and I have already gone through one round of dress shopping. I say absolutely go! I went to both high end botiques and more comericial routes too and never had a problem with any of them. The nicer botiques did not harrass me at all and gave me excellent service. I think it was a good idea because it gave me an idea of what I wanted. It then gives you time to purchase something you like at a trunk show or on discount. I think I will be purchasing my dress in a few weeks (will take 9 months to make at least.) My whole wedding mantra is to do whatever makes you happy, no matter what!

I bought mine about 20 months early. I was going “just to look” and would “never consider getting one that early” but alas I found one I LOVED after trying on only a few and ended up buying it after my parents and bridesmaid loved it too. I was afraid to wait in case it got discontinued. I’m now less than a year away and still love it! No regrets! So just be prepared that this might happen!

Shopping/Browsing is fine, but I wouldn’t purchase anything for a while!

I think you shoudl go shopping …. but it’s kind of far out to buy, you’re tastes could change.  Are you going alone or taking people with you?   At this point I wouldn’t be bringing anyone with me, I’d be worried they would so be over hearing about my wedding.

It’s not too early to look but I’d definitely hesitate to buy yet.  Trust me I bought a dress last year (2011) and my wedding isn’t until 2014.  I totally have dress regret now.  I’m still unsure what I’m going to do about the dress.  But if I could do it over again I’d have waited to purchase.

Agreed with pps, it’s never too early to start looking to get a feel for what you like.  I would advise NOT purchasing a gown this early in the game, though.  You might end up with “dress regret” if you keep looking for gowns after the purchase.

Personally, I wish I would have held off on buying my gown so early.  I got engaged in May 2010, bought my dress in May 2010, and got married in Aug 2011.  I loved my dress, but I really wish I would have waited and weighed my options more!

I accidently bought mine with 20months to go, I just went for a look…

To be hoenst though I don’t fluctuate regularl in weight (+I know how to shred if it comes to it), I’d never heard of dress regret untill I came on this forum and I’ve heard so many horror stories of dresses bing ordered to late by boutiques or them accidently being sold to the wrong bride- so I supplied a false date

Never too early! You can really enjoy it and shop around now. But if you do buy a dress, STOP SHOPPING! 🙂

I say dont buy yet … just have fun trying on etc … what wil happen is you’ll think you’ve found the “one” and then you’ll find another thats the “one” and you still have a yr till your wedding … dont buy ! just look around try on all styles to see what you like the most once you figure that out , think fabric etc … time is on your side ! 🙂 congrats
