My Maid/Matron of Honor did this, it was fine.

Two suggestions, though:

– even if the rest of the house still has boxes, keep the master suite clear so you can create a nice feel.

– have a friend or aunt who doesn’t drink or party late go back to your house before you do and set up something romantic. If she is organized, and can arrive 20 minutes before you, you could have her light candles, though don’t try that if she might get there an hour before!

I totally want to go home!! The only reason I think we might not is because we’ll have a bit of family staying with us (I’m guessing my parents and FI’s mom)… and that might be awkward ๐Ÿ™‚

We totally went home! We paid for our wedding ourselves, and we would have had to drive an equal distance whether we got a room or just went home, so it made sense. Our reception was out in the boonies, lol. Plus, we had to go home and let the dog out. ๐Ÿ˜‰

I’m so glad you poasted this, because we are also going to the house we will be living in after the wedding. My parents offered to pay for a hotel room for us, but we need a hotel in Miami the next night before we fly to St. LuciaKiss It made more sense to have them pay for one there than here in Oklahoma. I think its very sweet that we get to spend the night as husband and wife in our house we will then be living in together! (we live seperate now) Congrats on the house building!

wow if I were in your shoes I’d TOTALLY go home! My Fiance and I pay the mortgage and live in a house my mom owns and we’ve been here for a year. I love our place but I really don’t want to come home after my reception and be like…”ok time to scoop the litter box and fold laundry.” I love the idea of going home to your new place as a married couple though. That is super romantic!

We’re definately going home – didn’t even consider otherwise. We allready live together, and only about 15min from the venue, so it would make no sense for us to spend loads of money on a hotel room. I’m actually so looking forward to waking up in my husband(!)’s arms the day after. Must remember to make sure that there’s nice breakfast ready in the fridge, though.

We went home! We had to talk people out of getting us a hotel room, because really, we just wanted to sleep in our own bed. ๐Ÿ˜› And… stuff.

We live almost across the street from our venue, so we are definitely going home on our wedding night.  It kinda seems ridiculous for us to rent a hotel room (also across the street from our house in between it and the venue) when home is 10 more steps.  I will definitely make sure our house is spotless and dress up our room a little bit.  I say go for it!  That is $200+ you can spend on something else (honeymoon, a couple nice dinners, etc.).

I’m thinking that we’ll go home afterwards as well.  I’m totally going to dress up the room, but the thought of spending $200 on a hotel room that we’ll probably spend 8 hours (tops) in is just not for me.

We plan on going home. We just got our house (this past Friday) but my FH wont be moving in until the wedding. I agree with feeling more relaxed and comfortable in your own home. especially for first timers such as ourselves ๐Ÿ™‚

We plan on shelling out the bucks for a hotel for at least that night.  I want to wake up and not have anything to do – I know if I’m at home, I’ll want to start cleaning up, etc.  Being in a hotel will make me feel like the honeymoon has officially started!

That said, I don’t think people will find it strange that you want to spend the night at home.  To each is own!  If it feels right to you – do it!!

We were planning on going home until my mum said “So where will you two be staying on your wedding night?”. Yeah, thanks mum! ๐Ÿ™‚ Hehe, I think FH is quite pumped to have a nice room and be able to relax after the wedding day without everyone around.

We only live about 10 minutes from where we’re having the reception (at FI’s parent’s place) but I think it would be really sweet to stay at the same hotel that his parents stayed at on their wedding night.  Fiance thinks it’s weird, but really the closest nice hotel is further from the reception than our house is. . and I doubt that either of us will be in any condition to drive anywhere.  Maybe we’ll just stay at his parent’s house. . . cuz that wouldn’t be weird.  LOL

I think sleeping at your own house on the wedding night isn’t odd.  I think it could be really sweet and special.
