ok, not sure really if THIS is the place to post this…our wedding is in 4 months and we are planning on TTC immediately after the wedding. I have been on BC pills for close to 10 years now and spoke it over with my husband (we’re legal) and I told him that I just want to stop taking my darned pills! I hate BC pills for the fact of all the hormones and what they do to the body, etc…and can’t WAIT to stop them…we both agreed it’d be ok to stop them after this last pack I’m taking (so end of the month)…
PLUS i keep reading it takes about 2 – 3 months to get your body back to “normal” after stopping anyways…
as for actual “controlling of possible birth”, lol, we are using condoms until after the wedding as we’re not TTC just yet.
so I’m just wondering when everyone here stopped their birth control and how long it took to get pregnant?
obviously, again – we really want to wait til after the wedding, but it wouldn’t upset us if it did happen before hand (obviously, though, then that would mean i couldn’t drink at the wedding – but i don’t think we’ll have to worry…)
so yeah. just wondering all your experiences!

so i already have kids, but i think it depends on your bc! i had an iud and it didn’t take but like a few weeks for me to get pregnant after that thing was gone. and don’t worry about getting your body back to normal, cause pregnancy is gonna f*ck you up bad enough, lol.

I was on BCP for about 15 years. I stopped 6 months ago and started doing FAM charting because we wanted to TTC. But the charting revealed that the pill has messed up my body so now I have a luteal phase defect (LPD) and I am trying everything on earth to fix it to no avail. Western medicine, eastern medicine, homeopathy, accupuncture, I am doing it all. And nothing is working so we can’t begin to TTC until we get this fixed (don’t want to risk a miscarriage and not ready to try Clomid yet). so I recommend you go off the pill sooner rather than later because it can take a while to get back to normal.

I’ve been off the pill since October and have only had 2 periods since. I just got my 2nd this week so I’m hoping things go back to normal soon. I will say though that I’ve gotten a nasty case of acne after going off, which might bother you so close to your wedding. It’s not absolutely horrible (I’ve seen other people with worse) but I definitely haven’t had acne like this before, even my teenage years. Hopefully that stops soon as well, but it’s been 4 months now and just had a new break out that came with my period, so I’m starting to wonder. I do have a friend who just got pregnant on her first month off birth control, so really anything is possible!

I’m waiting until just after the honeymoon. I will say I had a friend go off and she got pregnant the 1st month she was off, another not for a year. Interesting to hear others comments!

JoesWifey – that’s one thing I’ve seen online when I googled “going off bc”…a lot of women experienced acne – which obviously i do NOT want – I’ve NEVER really had acne issues – maybe get ONE and I cry about it, lol…
but I do think it’s a good decision for me to go off the pills…plus it’ll be nice to see what changes come about (hopefully positive) from being OFF of them…

I stopped my BC pills, after taking them for 10 years, 2 weeks before wedding. I got pregnant 2 weeks after the wedding. Yeah, I’m pretty fertile 🙂

I was on the pill for about 1.5 years and then the ring for about a year. So 2.5 years total of BC. Always totally regular with my cycle for the 14 years prior to being on BC. Went off last March…. and never regulated. My cycle was all over the place. 60 days, 45 days, 55 days, 33 days so frustrating! I was diagnosed with PCOS but decided not to do anything about it and just continue charting and try the good old fashioned way. By the grace of God we got lucky in November – I still ovulated a week late – but since I was charting we got the timing right.
So really – I blame all my issues on BC – since I NEVER had a problem before. And I will NEVER use birth control again. I never really wanted to use it in the first place.
And my recommendation would be to go off BC 3-6 month prior to your TTC plans. Everyone’s body is different and you never know how yours will react.
9 months post BC… but really only 5 months of ‘TTC’. Honestly that’s nothing and I do feel very blessed. But the issues with my body not working the way it should was super frustrating. Curious to see how my body works after these 10 months 😉

My best friend was on the pill for YEARS. She stopped taking it for one month and got pregnant that month…

I hate the pill and I stopped taking it a year after we started dating.. well lol 4 years later I got pregnant so (we got lazy and he didn’t pull out)…I just had my daughter before our 5th anniversary and we are FINALLY get married after our 6th. But it all depends on your body…my sister got pregnant about 2 weeks after she stop taking the pill. If you are trying to get pregnant relax about it…a lot of the time it ends up happening when your not trying lol

Everyone is so different. My Ob-gyn says that for many women, the first month off BC is super fertile (which apparently also results in a higher chance of twins!) For me, I was on BC for 10 years, went off and had one crazy short cycle which came along with awful acne, but then regulated & skin cleared pretty quickly. I was pregnant about 6 months later….
My friends have gotten pregnant between 1 month and 10 months off the pill….

@Janna – interesting about the twins chances! I have to read more about that, because it’s gonna be a while before we TTC but – as weird as this sounds – I really wish we could have twins when the time comes for us.

I went off recently after being on BC in various forms for over 10 years. Pre-BC had had no acne as a teen and I was regular as clockwork, almost to the hour, I swear! After? No acne product seems to touch the stuff on my face and it gets worse the nearer the my period I get. My cycle is off, but not horribly. Its mostly that i went from 100% pain and PMS free periods to OMG I’m gonna die ones. That too seems to be lessening (hopefully it’ll lessen to zero!).
As for planning to TTC later, my doc suggested i start taking prenatal vitamins now, so that if we decide to start after the wedding, my body will be all prepared. Seems to make sense to me.

Everyones body is different, I was on the pill YAZ to be exact for a looong time .. something like 5 years!?
I did not like controling my body with the pill. I have been off of the pill for about 6-7 months. My period at first was off the charts crazy and not cycle normal..
we didnt use protections besides “pulling out” which isnt really protection.. after the first three months my period finally had a cycle and I can now track my cycle pretty well.
I didnt notice any difference in my body besides my period not coming for 35 days the first month.
I didnt gain weight (although i work out 30 min almost daily) .. I feel wonderful and I think using condoms is a better idea to be able to prepare your body for a baby!

“When women first get off of the birth control pill, their pituitary glands crank back up with higher amounts of stimulation than usual, so the chance of twins is greater with conception the first month off of the pill.”
Not sure how sound this is.
