A cantor who is a close friend of my father’s — but no one else in our family knows her — has offered to do the singing for our wedding… she offered to do it as a wedding gift but we thought it would be more appropriate to offer her an honorarium since it is work for her and we don’t know her that well. We have absolutely no idea what a reasonable contribution would be. For what it’s worth, we don’t live near a big city but also not in a super rural area … something in between. Thoughts?

I think $250 – $500 would be appropriate. I’m not sure what you were thinking of, but I work in a synagogue, and that seems to be the going range

Thanks to both of you – this is helpful!

$500 is usually the beginning going rate, for the entire services. If she’ll just be doing some of the singing and she offered, then personally I’d offer about $200-250.
