Woot! We ended up going to Jamaica, but St. Lucia was first on our list! Have to let us know how much you love it!

I had looked at swim-up rooms in case we ever won the lottery, lol, but I wondered, if you can swim up, does that mean other people might be swimming very close to your room when you are sleeping or doing *other activities*? I’m a pretty private person, so that would bug me a little.

The rest of it sounds really good though!

DO IT! If you have the money, yes it is worth it. I have stayed in a regular standard room before and the swim up rooms, The swim up rooms are AMAZING, it was so nice to just walk out and straight into the water! (both times was at Sandals Negril)

@hisgoosiegirl: Yes there will be a steam that connects all the swim up rooms to the pool, but it is pretty far from the door… i dont think anyone could look in or hear anything 🙂

@HeatherShane: ah, that’s a different story then. I was picturing the pool close to us that had pool volleyball and activities going on all the time. I’d say go for it then!

I think there was a similar sort of set up in our Secrets hotel in Jamaica. We definately appreciated the extras such as a better mini bar, help yourself bar with all day hor d’oeuvres and brand sprits. We also had a swim up room, but I couldn’t make my mind up if I liked it? It was nice for me to sit on the balcony and read a book with my legs in the pool. However, the balconys had a hot tub (more like a bath but w/e) and because our balcony was open I didn’t feel comfortable using it. Had our room been on a higher floor and enclosed, we probably would have used it.

To be honest I didn’t think the swim up room was that great, a nice extra but not worth spending loads of extra ££££ (or $$$$) on.

@MrsConnick: It depends on the kind of couple you are then, if you like to get out of the room alot and do stuff then i would do the excursions, but if you are more of a lay back and just enjoy not doing anything go for the room upgrade.

my husband and i barely left the room on our honeymoon 🙂 so needless to say i was very happy we spent the extra money on our upgraded room!!

I wasn’t sure about the swim up room either. This is very helpful. I was also looking at St. Lucia. Now I’m thinking Anitigua though.

We’ve been to a Sandals in Jamaica and will be staying at one in St. Lucia as well for our honeymoon! The last time we went to Sandals we received a complementary upgrade to a villa with a pool that was shared with three other couples. I don’t know about the swim up pools, but it wasn’t cleaned everyday and it was a little shaded so it wasn’t all that great. Also, we were kind of bored when we swam around in it and enjoyed the main pools with the bar, music, games, and where we could meet other couples. Needless to say, I personally would rather spend the extra money on excursions or spa treatments! I think you would have much better memories spending the $1700 that way than spending it on a swim up room. I suppose it really depends on what you enjoy most! Good luck deciding!

Do it.  I splurged on one of those butlered, secluded, private pool rooms in St Lucia’s and could not recommend it enough.  It was the most luxorious thing ever.

Oooo…I just wanted to pop in and say we’re thinking about doing Sandel’s in St. Lucia for our honeymoon as well.  I can’t wait to hear about your experience and what you decide to do (swim up versus no swim up).

We’re honeymooning at Sandals St. Lucia also :).  We’re staying in one of the rondovals.  I looked at the swim up pools, but from the pictures there seemed to me to be a big lack of privacy.  I would’ve only been ok with it if we’d had one at the end.

For us, the added expense to get the butler, along with a private outdoor area with hot tub, pool and outdoor shower, seems to be worth it.  I don’t really care about meeting other people and we’re not big partyers/drinkers.  I mostly just want to hang out and relax.
