I swear bees….we really wanted to take advantage of having Memorial day off for our wedding weekend….well plan has sucked suddenly. We price out a ton of honeymoon spots, go to book and BAM all the flights are now $1000. Shit.. we could be going to Europe for that price and the 24 hour flight times!
I’m so pissed. I am stressed. And I have no idea of what to do now.

@canarydiamond: I mean really for $1k flight I may as well be going there. Fiance really wanted to go snorkel in coral reefs though

@jpalm13: You can snorkel in Europe. Go to Greece and the surrounding islands. Or around Spain.

Search for red eye flights.
FH and I have a honeymoon planned for Costa Rica that ends on Memorial Day weekend. I purchased the flight tickets months ago to keep costs down, and we’re also flying during some pretty horrific hours, but we’ll take it easy the first day there, and first day back home.

@jpalm13: I would go to Europe! We’re planning on going to Dublin for ours!

@dragonlover: Unless I’m doing it wrong, I don’t see any. They have a layover of 11 hours. I can get Cleveland, Akron, and Pittsburgh so the airports may not be big enough. If we do the week after the wedding, the price drops back down to $700…

This may not be feasible for everybody, but this is a blog about travel with points and miles.

Why not just change when you go? It seems silly to be thinking your honeymoon can’t happen over one vacation day.
Also, I vote go to Europe. The Caribbean has horrible, spoiled, 95% dead coral reefs due to over fishing, pollution, and too many tourists. Pretty much everywhere else on Earth with coral reefs has better snorkeling than the Caribbean (been to 28 countries and counting).

I have always wanted to go to Greece. Island hopping would be amazing.
You might want to do a bit of research into it, though, but there are lots of beachy type places in Europe.
This blogger did a honeymoon in Greece/Italy, her photos are amazing:

- Wedding: November 2013 - St. Augustine Beach, FL
Wait a week or two and then go on your honeymoon when it’s not a holiday weekend. I did that with my first wedding because we got married during Spring Break when prices for cruises were over $1200 for a 7 day. We sailed a month a half later for half the price ($600!) on the same ship with the same itinerary. Sometimes it pays to wait. Not to mention, there was no post-wedding stress trying to catch a plane or dealing with a layover while hungover from the reception.

@crayfish: That’s on the table now. Since its a holiday, we wouldn’t have to count it as a vacation day.
Where else is there good snorkling?! If tickets to the Caribbean are going to run me $1000 and 25 hours of flight time, I’d rather go somewhere else.

@beachbride1216: You make a good point! Fiance and I don’t have a lot of vacation time to use. Technically mty company only gives you 1 yes ONE day when you start. When I started, I said I want 2 weeks and occasional on top of that. So I have some to spare but I don’t want to abuse it.

TO @jpalm13: look at going to The Florida Keys… not nearly as expensive as flying to the Caribbean or Europe.
The money you save can be spent on some posh accommodations and fabulous meals out !!
Fly into Key West… or for a bit of an adventure… fly into Fort Lauderdale (Miami is a ZOO !!). Rent a car and then drive down… the drive is incredibly beautiful… along the Overseas Highway.
Wikipedia -Overseas Highway = http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Overseas_Highway
The cool thing about The Keys is “it feels like you are in the Caribbean”… but you are still in the Continental USA… so all the good stuff that you find in the Caribbean, AND all the things you are familiar with here at home.

Hope this helps,
