and now I’m getting nervous! I’ve been all excited about this, and now I’m nervous. This is our first time looking, my first time seeing all of these places (SO has been to a few and was recommended another one from a friend) We’re really just looking for a place where we can have the ceremony and reception, bring in our own minister.
So my question to you bees is, what did you ask the people at the venues on your first look through? I’ve got a list of questions in my Bride Organizer, and a friend sent me her list of questions but I’m a little overwhelmed!

How many are you going to? I only went to my top 2 (after doing a month of research online, looking at pictures, rates, etc).
I just made sure everything I thought was correct (regarding the prices, what is included, who I was/was not allowed to bring in, the hours I would be getting, etc) was actually correct.
I didn’t go in with a list I guess, I just asked other questions as they came to me! Most of the information I had requested in emails…so I already had their pricing, what is included, etc.
I did ask some question about where people usually put things.
Like, where did they usually have the dance floor?
Where did people usually put the cake?
What type of decorating is not allowed?
Are we responsible for cleanup and by what time?
What time can I gain access to the venue for decorating?
Who is responsible for flipping the room (if you need it)?
Will there be someone from the venue on hand during?
Do you set up the tables or are we responsible for setting up the room?
Those are some of the types of things I think I asked.

@kes18: Tomorrow we’re going to SO’s top 3, and then at another time we’ll go see 2 of my top choices (we’ve been to one other before, for brunch). Mine are a little easier, since the only ones left are near my house. SO wants to get married further away, so this is why we’re splitting up the visits lol. Thanks for your sample questions!

Where did you look? I just saw your other post about South Jersey locations. All the places you listed sound nice, but not worth travelling to from North Jersey of SI. I would expand your search to some of the Vineyards (Valenzano, Laurita, Tommasello, to name a few), the Atlantic City venues, and the shore regions (try the McLoone’s places and there are a few nice places in Long Branch). These locations seem like they would be more worthy of a bit of a trip for both sides of your families.
Keep us posted 🙂

@JrzyGurl: We went to look at The Mansion on Main Street (Voorhees, NJ), Lucien’s Manor (Berlin, NJ), and LaTrina’s (Glassboro, NJ). We LOVED The Mansion on Main Street (I wasn’t too sure I would like it), We both strongly disliked Lucien’s Manor (I felt claustrophobic in their ceremony room, SO hated the look of the building and the guy who gave us the tour) and LaTrina’s we pulled into the parking lot over an hour early for our appointment, took one look and said no lol. It was just that bad lol. The ones left on our list are The Stony Hill Inn (Hackensack, NJ), The Grand Colonial (Hampton, NJ) and The Smithville Inn (Galloway Twp, NJ).
As far as the trip is concerned, we have limitations lol SO would love to get married out in the middle of nowhere (Midwest, PA, etc) while I’d love to get married somewhere closer to home (Bergen, Hudson, Rockland, NYC maybe even Essex). So we’re compromising lol He won’t look at NY, CT or MA venues, I won’t look at PA venues, and I have an Aunt and Uncle who wouldn’t drive more than 2 hours (they live on SI) so everything has to be within 2hours of their house. He’s pushing the limits with some of the South Jersey Venues lol I’ve got to say if nothing else pans out, I could see us getting married at The Mansion on Main Street, no regrets.
Our other hurdle right now is finances, oh and the actual proposal lol (expecting that on Valentine’s Day). If we go with the Mansion on Main street it will wind up costing us about 10k (and considering the fact that I’m basically unemployed, I can’t save up for the wedding… and SO is losing his job, the company is selling his division and most likely not taking any of the current employees in the deal) so We’re both looking desperately for jobs.
And now that I’ve made this a LONG post, I’ll end it here lol.

Your questions need to be based on what you need and want. Needs first, then wants.

@annasaf83: Can you tell me what the packages at The Mansion started off at? I assumed they were really pricey. Best of luck 🙂

@JrzyGurl: depending on when (day of the week and time of year) they’re about 100 to 110 pp including tax and gratuity. We’re going for a dry wedding which they said knocks off $15pp! (SO can’t drink on his medication, and my family and I aren’t big drinkers)
Ceremony fee is $500 plus 7% tax
and the Service Amenity Fee (Valet Parking, Bridal Attendant, Bridal Suite Maitre D’ and Coat Check) is $200 plus 7% tax
We absolutely loved the grounds and I already had a dream that I took my parents to see it and they approve lol
