- Wedding: October 2010
I know it’s playing with fire, but I was curious and it was excuse enough to visit my new hood (move-in date is on June 14th). The house is located in the same little town as the house we bought, but closer to town and the pretty canal nearby. I was really nervous this morning because in pictures, this place is what I pictured in my mind before. The style of the house, the exterior color, the house number, and even the area of town (closer to downtown) was a plus for me.
A few of you might remember my original dilema: I was first in love my the town before I loved my house. In fact, it took awhile before I truly realized our home’s potential. One of the main reasons we didn’t wait it out was the fact that it’s such a small neighborhood and I didn’t wanna gamble waiting for something better when there were already so few homes. Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE our new home and with some work, it will truly be our dream house, but it’ll take a lot work.
But I have to say that after playing with fire today, I love it even more! The house we saw was one of those that looks much bigger in pictures, but the rooms are really tiny. Even if we passed-up on our home, we wouldn’t have been interested in this at all. As soon as we stepped in, my heart was dancing cause our place is soooo much better! I’ve now retired my investigations and officially stopped looking!
My theory about the homes being sold in my (soon-to-be) hood? Basically this is what happened since spring has come and the snow has melted:
- 2 other homes were put on the market up the street (one of which is my FMIL’s co-worker’s home, the other is being sold by a single elderly woman). One home is too small, and the other one isn’t our style at all.
- 1 larger home is also up for sale near town (the owner was an older man that has passed on). The home is so decked out in ancient everything, which would require a full-out, major renovation, so we were never even curious.
- And then this home (also owned by an elderly couple that’s moving to a retirement home). Pretty exterior, 2 balconies, near the water, near “downtown”, and there was a TON of people there at the open house.
After seeing other homes that’s been available, our conclusion is we really made a good decision in buying our place when we did. Now we just need to move in!
Are you still looking while waiting to close? What are your experiences? Did you feel that by comparing it has reinforced your decision to buy? Do you love your place even more now? Am I the only one crazy by looking further?
