In addition to other recommendations, I just want to add that Sanoma and Napa are not too far from the city for wine tasting.

hi — you’ve gotten a lot of comments but I wanted to throw in my two cents! We did San Fran the last half of our honeymoon — we ended up renting a car & heading out to napa for two nights which was really fun – then stayed in SF two nights.

all of the other suggestions you got are great – Alcatraz is really cool – book ahead of time! they are booked DAYS in advance.

I would highly recommend going to Golden Gate park & checking out the California Academy of Sciences – SUCH a cool museum, i am 30 years old and felt like a kid being there. The DeYong museum is right across the way – and golden gate park is beautiful.

have fun!

It may seem silly, but be prepared for the weather.  March is generally a bit on the rainy side.  I have ran into many tourists who thought the Bay Area was in “Sunny California” and thus didn’t need to check the weather to pack, they were usually shivering and pretty unhappy…  A great day in San Francisco is 70+ degrees and those days usually happen in the Fall.  More typical is 50’s or 60’s, partially cloudy/foggy with some mist.

Definitely recommend spending a little time driving to Napa/Sonoma, Mendocino, Monterey, Point Reyes, or any other small coastal town.  Even in a storm the coast is beautiful and super romantic.  If you venture out in a rental car definitely take the backroads, there are some beautiful drives in the bay!
