So we are taking a mini moon to Vegas then hopping over to SF (bay area) for a friends wedding. We are staying at the hotel where the wedding is located for the first 2 days but afterwards I am looking to stay somewhere else.
I have been to the bay area quite a few times, i lived out there for a year but I dont know where the best place to stay in the city would be, and also be cost effective. Can you provide some help please??
Should we skip the city and head to carmel or monterey? Were only looking at Sunday- Tuesday, so 2 nights.

If you stay in SF, I recommend the Hotel Del Sol. It’s affordable and fun.
But, I love, love, LOOOOOOVED Monterey and Carmel. I might recommend that instead.

Hotel Vertigo would be kinda kewl due to its history. Don’t know about the cost though. Petite Auberge is a small bed and breakfast. The price should be reasonable. If you really want a bargain, I would try Hotwire. You won’t get to know the name of the hotel before you book but you’ll know the star rating and the neighborhood it is in. If you’re really good, you can also guess the hotel by looking at their amenities. A friend of mine once used hotwire and ended up staying at Clift for like $70/night or something.

Check out the Hotel Triton. It’s just a couple of blocks from Union Square. We stay here everytime we go (mostly becuase they allow dogs) but it is super fun and the decor is awesome. It’s pretty small, and they have complimentary wine every evening, and the price is pretty reasonable.
