Muir Woods is a must!!!  Its the redwoods park…you can just go and see them or you can do a solid few hour hike.  Beautiful.

If you’ve got some cash to spend – check out restaurant – Gary Danko.  It’s fabulous.

oooh I love SF!  Where are you staying?

I know it’s cheesy but Alcatraz is really fascinating and has a great self guided tour.  I also love golden gate park and the musuem there.

It’s probably going to be kind of cold in March, but nothing too bad.

One my favorite things about San Francisco is that in addition to having loads of things to do in the city, we are within driving distance of so many great places.  I definitely recommend spending a day or two in either Sonoma or Napa wine country.

What kind of recommendations are you looking for?  Places to eat, drink, things to do, shows, etc?  I can go on for hours.  I love this city.  Where are you staying?

It’s true that there’s so much to do in the area, it would be good to get a little info on the kind of things you are into in order to cut the list down.

I’m moving away from SF in about six months, and what I plan to do whenever I visit after that is just stuff my face for a week straight.  My favorite thing about the city is definitely the food.  I’m missing the tacos already.

I’m going to “third” the, “what are you hoping to do?”

Weather in March (and really ANYTIME in San Francisco) can be unpredictable. Whenever you’re here, plan on layering. That said, the highs will most likely be between 55-70. I’d guess low-60’s. It gets pretty cool at night with the 54 degree bay surrounding us. So, bring lots of sweaters and light jackets. (It’s usually a more damp, windy cold. My boss, who is from Phoenix, loves it!)

Where are you staying?

If you think you’re going to need a car while you’re here, I strongly advise against renting one. The cost to rent a car is kind of high compared to other places and it will cost about $50/day to park it at your hotel. If you just want to do a quick day-trip, I’d suggest getting yourself a Zipcar membership to use while you’re here. Look for a promo-code online that will get you free dues or free driving credits. There are lots with the Zipcars in them all over the city, so no matter where you’re staying, there should be some nearby. (Even in the tourist areas. SF is really small.)

Send us all more info about what you’re hoping to do, but here are some ideas in the meantime:

  • Bike across the golden gate bridge, then take the ferry back
  • Go to Alcatraz, I recommend the night tour. Book those tix early (at least a few days!) as they sell out. And bring warm clothes!
  • Hang out in North Beach (the “Italian” neighborhood. I’d suggest getting picnic stuff and eating on Washington Square in front of the church I’ll be getting married in :). It’s gorgeous and there is lots of people watching! There are also tons of kitchy Italian restaurants. They’re fine, but they’re kitchy Italian restaurants. If you want Italian dinner, I suggest Tony’s Pizza, Cafe Ideale, Tomasos, or Sodini’s. (The last two are very “old Italian”) Get free fudge samples and gorge on samples of saltwater taffy at Z Cioccolato.
  • Take a tour from Mr Toad’s Tours, I always send my friends and they LOVE it
  • Take a walk through Chinatown if you can handle the crowds
  • Walk along the Embarcadero
  • Grab a drink and a burger on the deck at Pier 23 restaurant, GREAT views! Awesome when it’s sunny!
  • Find the Bushman at Fisherman’s wharf. Try to set it up so that he scares your Fiance (get out your camera!) While you’re there, grab In-n-out burger or a sourdough bowl of clam chowder… Then go see the sea lions on Pier 39.
  • If you want to see a museum in a “hip” way, the California Academy of Sciences opens on Thursday evenings for 21+, they have a DJ and sell drinks. I’ve not been, but I’ve been meaning to get there!
  • Check out all that Golden Gate Park has to offer (buffalo, Conservatory of Flowers, Japanese Tea Garden, etc. It’s HUGE!)
  • Make sure to just grab a cappucino and relax!
  • If you LOVE oysters, I suggest you rent a car and head up to Tomales Bay Oyster company! They have picnic tables, grills, and oysters fresh out of the water. You bring everything else. And you can take Hwy 1 up and see the BEAUTIFUL coastline!
  • Also within easy driving distance are Sonoma, Napa, Stinson Beach (you’ll pass it on your way to Tomales Bay, depending on your route!), Santa Cruz (adorable boardwalk!), Santa Cruz Mountain wineries, etc.

So yeah, there is lots to do. Send us more info and we’ll throw more out at you!
