((hugs))  Sometimes they will prescribe you a valium to take shortly before; maybe ask about that?  They won’t let you drive yourself home after taking the valium, but it will definitely take the edge off!

@MissFlowerPot:  It’s not so much that it takes care of the pain totally but it takes the edge off and blisses you out so much that you don’t care.

I agree with inspiredcreationsbyhaley about the valium. I am horribly afraid of needles and when they give me valium like 20 min becore an IV it is much better. I’m not freaking out having a panic attack like I normally do plus you don’t notice the pain as much.

vicodin and valium are two different drugs one is for pain and the other is for anxiety.

As someone all too familiar with long complicated extractions I send my hugs!! The meds should work wonders though if that is any consolation & you really should only feel a quick pinch for the needle (like less than one second)! What always helps me is just to transport my thoughts elsewhere! Think of the wedding or something happy & distracting!

Does your dentist offer sedation dentistry?  My mother in law swears by it.  I’m not sure what they give her — nitrous oxide, maybe?  There might also be Valium involved.

The one time I had extractions, I had to have an oral surgeon do it.  I was getting general anesthesia, and am terrified of needles.  They gave me the nitrous oxide first, and I just didn’t care about the needle any more.
