I used to be wonderful about working out when I lived in Chicago, I would go with friends and knew a lot of the trainers so it was like a fun social thing to do, as well as great for my fitness.. here in Australia, I don’t know any gym goers so I end up not going at all or going for less than an hour (not very productive)… do you have any suggestions, PRETTY PLEASE???

Take classes! Listen to headphones. If you’re using the gym as social time, you’re probably not that productive anyways 😛
But seriously the classes are fun and people are always very friendly in there

Bring an iPod. Load it up with music that psychs you up. Work had, compete against yourself, try to set new personal records. Less than an hour of intense exercise can be as good if not better than a couple of hours of mild-moderate activity. I tend to only got for 45 minutes + stretching and I am all about getting into a zone where I don’t really want to talk to anyone.

iPod works wonders. It always got me in the mood to work out and keep going. But now I work out at home though it’s hard to get motivated.

I agree with Entangled. I like to turn up my iPOD really loud and get in the zone. I’d much rather go to the gym by myself.. it allows me to think.. or to just plain zone out and think about nothing else (ha). It’s nice not having to talk to anyone for a little while 🙂

Like you my only real option is to go by myself. I had to relocate out of country for my Darling Husband too and both of us are in a completely new state… so we don’t know very many people.
This likely wont be at all helpful to you, but it worked for me! My most recent motivation to go has been a few beautiful specimens who just so happen to share the same gym going schedule as me 😉 Its painful how incredibly good looking these guys are. Luckily they also happen to be my husband’s colleagues so its very much just innocent gawking. But they hit the gym for a good few hours… so who am I to turn away a free show?

I know that going to the gym to be social isn’t the most productive way to work out but it definitely worked for me, I was in great shape because I could chat with someone while I ran or lifted/just being mext to somebody you like can make things more fun
as for the ipod, maybe I just don’t like music very much haha because it does NOT help me out.. classes definitely do help though
