First off, that was super sweet of you to help the pup out! Poor little guy! And it sucks that his owner wasn’t as thankful as he should have been. Let’s hope he was just having an off day!

Do you still have the number in your phone? I would totally call next week, innocently saying that you’re just following up on how the dog is doing, I am so glad he’s home…all in a real cheery voice so his wife hears it and wonders what’s going on and then he has to tell her he got loose, haha. ๐Ÿ™‚

really?  OP did a nice thing to return the dog but there is no need to follow up anything  and less reason to try to get him into the poo with his wife with unsolicited phone calls interupting his homelife. he was home alone with 3 kids – i guess he had other priorities

Yeesh, I hope his wife cares more about the dog than he does. If my dog got out and someone tracked me down to return him, I would be beyond grateful.

Some people just aren’t meant to be pet owners.

@eloping:  It was a joke, sorry. Just trying to make her feel better.  I would worry about the dog too. Again, not serious, I guess my haha at the end didn’t fully convey that.

Wow. Hopefully the wife and kids care more about the dog than he does.

Something similar actually happened to us the other day. We live in an apt complex and we noticed a little shih tzu looking dog wandering around. There is a lot of traffic in our apt complex, and it’s next to a street that’s not SUPER busy, but people are always speeding down it. I was afraid the dog would be hit. Danny and I began trying to coax the little guy to us, even tempting him with some of our dogs’ treats, a leash, and a car ride and he was just NOT having any of it. Any time we’d get within 2 or 3 feet he’d book it. After asking neighbors (he wasn’t their dog) I figured my best bet would be to call animal control. That’s when he headed to the townhomes across the street. I followed him. He was sitting at the front door of a townhome like he was waiting to go in. After observing for a few minutes, I walked up to the townhome and knocked on the door, for once the dog actually didn’t run away. Some girl answered the door, quite obviously high out of her goddamn mind while meanwhile music blasted in the background. The dog walked past her into the house. “uhmm…is this your dog?” I asked her. “Oh. Yeah, you found him.” she said, and then SLAMMED THE DOOR IN MY FACE. Ummm…ok.

Then yesterday I saw the dog running around again eating road kill. I called the SPCA this time, but some kid actually let him back in the house before SPCA or animal control ever showed up.

Sigh.

@thanlon_88:  I know. The fact he was wandering around eating road kill, too. I sincerely hope he has all his shots, but judging by their care of him it’s doubtful. He’s going to get parasites, if he doesn’t already have them. Sigh. If I see him one more time I’m calling either the SPCA or animal control and giving them the address of the dog’s house.
