Today while I was at work (I’m a leasing agent) I was showing this nice couple some apartments. I had a good convo going with them because they told me they had a boxer, and that just opened up a whole can of crazy-worms because I am the hugest animal/dog lover! If you’ve seen me posting in the animal boards you understand this lol. I’m crazy.
ANywhoo…we are just lallygaggin (i love that word) around when we all see this little yorkie-mix running around. He was definitely clean, friendly, collared and happy. He would come up to us wagging his tail but when I tried to pet him he’d run away all playfully. I need to make a long story short. He was still out there for a while and I straight told the prospects “OMG IM SORRY! I HAVE TO TRY AND GRAB HIM. WHAT IF HIS OWNER IS LOOKING FOR HIM?? I WOULD BE SO SAD IF MY DOG GOT LOOSE” They were totally understanding and trying to help me capture him. Well…he was having none of it. He seemed so happy to be outside running around peeing on everything! He was freakin cute. He even had a mohawk. Yes, a real doggie mohawk. Let me get to the point. The dog wouldn’t let me get him so I gave up. When the couple left…I go outside in the cold, in my heels, running all over the property, whistling and yelling out “puppy! puppy!” Lol, didn’t know his name obviously. HE IS NO WHERE TO BE FOUND. I was so sad because I just kept thinking, what if it was my little munchkin I hope someone would care enough to look for him. Ya know??
My shift is over and I told my coworker I was going to go in my car and drive around and look inbetween the buildings for him. As soon as I lock the doors, I see two of my residents playing with the dog in the parking lot. I run over to them and I was so grateful the dog was still in the complex because I was scared he’d go out into the street, ya know?? So he let us pick him up, he was just so sweet. Maybe 10 lbs…little guy. I call the number on his collar. Left a voicemail. Two seconds later the number calls me back. I’m all excited like “hiiiii! You missing your puppy!?!? We have him here at The __ Apartments. He looks happy and healthy and he’s okay, don’t worry!!!” The guy on the other end is like “Oh okay. Well..uhh….I live near there, he must’ve dug out from the backyard. Ummm…my wife is gone and I have my three kids so I can’t leave” I didn’t know what the hell the solution would be but for me to take the dog to the guy’s house…right?
So I told him I would gladly drop him off (because it was less than a mile from the job. Like..I probably could’ve walked there and it would’ve taken 10 minutes). The guy is like “Oh okay, great”.
I find his house…park in the driveway…grab the adorable little guy (who I totally wanted to steal by the way) and walk up to the front door. I ring the door bell and I notice he has all these different stickers on his windows. Talking about “no solicitation!” “I don’t need your God, I have my own” …Weird sh!t like that. I was like Oh lord, here we go.
He answers the door. He opens the door about wide enough to see who’s on his stoop. I have like the biggest cheesiest smile on my face and he’s like, Oh thanks. I put the pup down and he goes into the house. I thought I dont know, we would have a 20 second chat about what happened and he would be really grateful to have his family’s pet back home safe. NOPE! He’s like “I have a dilapidated fence back there I need to fix” I’m like “yeaaa, we found him, bla bla bla, he’s so sweet, I just couldn’t let him roam around” He’s like “well thanks” as he’s closing the door lol! At this point I was mad…because I wasn’t expecting a reward or to be praised, but a little smile and a genuine response would be nice. Considering how much I love my pets, I would even hug someone who returned my little guy to me. SOMETHING!! So as he’s closing the door I’m like “I would really hope if my dog got loose that someone would track him down and then bring him back to my house for me!” And he closes the door. I wanted to break in his sh!t and take that little doggy home with me!
Either way it goes, whether I got a door slammed on me or I was given a cash prize…I did my good deed and I was more than happy to do it. I can NOT stomach the thought of a little doggy OR big doggy..any animal for that matter..wandering around on the street. Breaks my heart. I would do it again in an instant and I hope the pup is happy and healthy in that crazy guy’s home!! LOL 😉
