I’ve been using witch hazel as toner. It’s not completely alcohol free (has a very small percentage of alcohol), but when I started using it I switched to a moisturizing face wash and a good moisturizer. I like it because I feel like it works really well and it’s just natural and doesn’t have any excessive ingredients.

PS I now use Simple Moisturizing Facial Wash and Garnier Moisture Rescue Lightweight UV lotion (both of these aren’t over the top super moisturizing products so I don’t think the toner is drying me out at all!)

i suggest witch hazel. it’s natural, dirt cheap, and very effective.

Another vote for witch hazel. Been using it daily for about a year now (I put it on before my moisturizer) and my skin has never looked better.

I recommend witch hazel to my clients all the time and use it often myself. It is incredibly cheap and effective, but I definitely still prefer to keep my other skincare line toners in rotation.

I’ll add on to the witch hazel pile! It truly is amazing. I know the smell is bizarre, but honestly after using it for a couple months I don’t even smell it anymore.

I like Neutrogena’s Alcohol-Free Toner.  It smells nice and is very gentle.  I have very sensitive skin and normal toners burn, but this one doesn’t.  I even use it to remove the oily traces of my eye-makeup remover.  And it’s only like $7.

If you can’t find that, I think Nivea also makes a nice alchohol-free toner that’s about the same price.

EDIT:  I think the Nivea toner is discontinued.  I have also used the L’Oreal Hydrafresh which is also alcohol free.  I’d say it’s a toss-up between that and the Neutrogena.  But the Neutrogena is easier to find (at least in my area) and my husband recognizes that bottle (he does most of the shopping), so that’s what I stick with.
