My close friend has a three week old baby. She and her husband are having terrible marital problems. They’ve had issues for a while, but the baby has brought the issues to the forefront. Her baby has an undiagnosed food allergy (so food based gifts are out.)
She lives in another state, so I can only send her gifts through the mail. What can I send her to make her feel special? (Her husband wiil not help with the baby, so massages, manicures etc. are out.)

Maybe food gift cards so she doesn’t feel the need to cook or arrange for someone to come in and clean since she doesn’t have help from her spouse.

Gift cards to places that do takeout or delivery food. Body products from somewhere nice like Lush. I also liked getting jewelry with my baby’s birthstone on it.

Either someone to come clean the house (I wish I had that!) or some paid for nannying/babysitting from a reputable source. Otherwise if it has to be a physical gift, it needs to be something dad won’t be able to take advantage of – a book she wants to read, bath bombs, etc. I think the gift of some free time (ie cleaning/sitting) would better though!

My fiance gives everyone a diaper genie lol… I would do tons of diapers and things that they will for sure use all the time. Dock a Tot is a popular new item that everyone seems to love too!

My go-to shower gift is a cute piece of teething jewelry. Something Mom can wear to work or out running errands that she feels good about wearing, that keeps little fingers occupied too.
For your friend specifically though, I’d probably get her a sitter and a spa package. I can’t imagine how stressed she must be, and it sounds like she might benefit from some relaxing time out of the house.

I agree with people above that a house cleaner and a baby sitter (if she is willing to be apart from baby, I wasn’t for a while) are the best material gifts. And maybe some flowers.
But really the best thing you can do for her is to be there for her. This sounds like a really tough time for her, and I’m sure she will need a lot of moral support.
