So my last few haircuts have been a disaster. I let my hair get a little longer for the wedding but then I got a post-wedding chop and it was horrible again. Three different hairdresser have tried to cut my hair I think somewhat like this

but it doesn’t work, they don’t blend it right and I have really really THICK wavy hair. It ends up exploding whenever it’s slightly humid (even if I straighten it) into this crazy looking blondfro. I have a thin long narrow face (think Sarah Jessica Parker) so I think by having such a square haircut it just accentuates it even more into this mop looking thing on my head.
Anywho, my hair grows fast so now it’s a bit grown out and I want to try again, but I don’t know what to tell them. I almost want to say to cut it to a point in the back, or reallly, really rounded in the back so it’s not so square. Does anyone have a haircut like this or have any ideas on how I should cut my hair?

I have the same hairtype as you – extremely thick and wavy. I haven’t really got any great ideas though, sice I have been growing my hair out for the last 1 1/2 years. I am looking so, so much forward to my PWC!

How are you going to get yours cut? You know what else, I feel like they’re trying to cut it like Rachel from Friends back in the 90’s. I live sort of in the middle of no where so I think maybe the hairdressers are a few decades behind here

See maybe if they can shape it a little more into a bob? Then you can maybe try to straighten it when it’s not too humid out, and when it is humid, use curl product and let it go wavy!
I have the same type of hair, and that’s what I’m hoping to do!

Layers layers layers!!! Tell them where you want your longest layer, and let them chop from there. Also, you can ask a stylist to thin your hair, which makes it much more managable.
As far as humidity goes, try using John Frieda’s Frizz Ease secret weapon. It’s a bit expensive, but it works wonders!!

I have thick, coarse wavy hair. Right now it’s to my shoulders, layered with bangs. I blow it out straight, but not stick straight. The layers are very important to keep it from puffing out and to make it easy to dry. And I think that bangs might look really good on a long, thin face.
I just looked all over for a photo but I can’t find a good recent one.
ETA: Here’s one.

Thanks ley_ley. I used to get my haircut exactly this way, and have been trying to explain to them how to do it. It worked well because my waves would work with it. But I think they’re trying to be too chopping or making too much of the shorter layer because somehow it just looks like a crazy mess the last few times.
So I was trying to think of something else to do a bit longer since the last three hairdresers have just made it ragged and triangle looking. But at least if they messed up my shoulder length hair I wouldn’t be regulated to pins for 3 months.

I have thick wavy hair as well and for my PWC I went with layers, side-swept bangs and the stylist suggested majorly thinning out my hair and it ended up great. Now when it’s humid it curls really nicely but when I want to straighten it it also looks good. Do you have an Ulta near you? That’s where I went and the stylist was fabulous. I didn’t take any pictures in I just told her what I wanted and she talked to me about it throughout the whole cut. Good luck!

@af – that’s what I always tell them, layers, thin, and I use the Frieda.
I think part of the problem is the hair dressers so I’m going to try a new one too but I think I need to explain to them more than layers because if they’ve been cutting the layers too short, which is I think where the problem is coming in, and also not doing much to the back.
@dana – I’m scared of bangs but I have been thinking of them as a possibitity. I’m just scared too because I feel like you have to have to really trust your hairdresser to do them right.

There is an Ulta like 45 minutes away but that’s tempting. What are sideswept bangs?

Sideswept bangs kind of blend a little more with layers, imo. I was scared to get bangs as well but the sideswept look really worked for me, here’s some pictures I just googled. If you want some more examples just google side swept bangs if you wwant some more.

Ohhh, I see now. Do they get in your eyes? I run a lot so I guess they’d need pinned back?
Does anyone know what I mean about the back coming to like a point or like really rounded? I saw a picture of it yesterday but can’t find it now.

Ok here’s a picture of my hair – see how the bottom is really boxy. That’s what I really don’t like.

Hair twin, I say! My plan is to go with side-swept bangs and a layered, wavy cut. Sort of like Ms Knightley in the above photo, or like Heidi Klum here:
