Well I think the problem is, at the moment the economy is terrible so most people with 2 and 4 year degrees, or even more are making what people without degrees can make.

Id look into civil service/gov type jobs, as you can work your way up the ladder through means other than education.

Also , technology/ computer science/ and healthcare are all great fields that with little education ( sometimes a certificate, or 2 year degree) you can do very well for yourself.

Darling Husband works for Publix. Right now his pay is just okay, but when he moves up, he can make in the 60s to 80s or so as a department manager and well over 100 as a store manager. I have a PhD and will probably never make that much.

Darling Husband is a head custodian/building lead hand for a school board at a school. He makes good money, has full benefits and a pension. Can’t ask for much more than that!

We do cleaning and we could make a “killing” if we got our own contracts but that would take effort on our part and I think we need a lot of legalities to do this: Business name, register with the BBB, etc…

@Eva Peron:  At least in Canada, good luck getting any government job without a degree. Even admin jobs require some sort of certificate. About half the government jobs require masters these days. I have a bachelor’s degree in my job, it counted as 8 years worth of experience when I was hired. Everyone seems to want a government job here!

Working on the oil fields and oil rigs is a great paying job. A lot of them make 6 figures.
