I made more money before I got my Bachelor’s degree (about 6k more, ha).  I am now working on my Master’s degree & my husband has a technical degree and makes $5 more an hour than I do.

DH used to do IBEW as well but he quit. Being as it is work in Alaska, they pay almost twice as much. An Apprentice is paid about $19 an hr and and a Foreman gets paid something like $50/hr straight time (overtime is out of control).

If you do construction or any sort of field work, definitely do it through a union. I work for a general contractor and let me tell ya,  their benefits are amazing.

Governement jobs without a degree would be in the secretarial realm…otherwise, as the poster above mentioned, it won’t happen.

If you guys want to move to Alaska, there’s a ton of jobs…:) I love it here. It’s almost like the economic crisis never hit here.

My uncle worked his way up to a VP of sales at Motorola with no degree. My dad was a pilot with no degree – now is a flight instructor. My brother is a self-taught graphic artist and is high up in his field – without even a high school diploma.

I have an advanced degree from MIT and make the same as my mom who is a top paralegal with no high school diploma and a 2-year degree.

Education doesn’t always mean you make a lot! Totally depends on your field!

DH is trying to enter an apprenticeship program for a sheet metal worker.  The journeyman salary sis 90K/year, but apprentices start at 45% of that salary.  Each 6 months, they get a 5% raise.  The apprenticeship is 5 years long.  🙂

Plumber. My dad has 3 degrees and is a dean of a college. A plumber makes more per hour and more per year than he does. FI’s dad is the same (rocket scientist with a PhD). A plumber makes more than him too. My ex’s father owned his own plumbing company and brought in well over $100k.

SO is a truck driver and makes a lot of money for the small amount of time and money he had to put into getting his class 1. TONS of driving jobs around here. I’m really jealous of him and his job. He works in the city so comes home every night, no long haul. Too bad I’m a bad driver or else we’d be a driving team around north america making maaaaaaad money.

I am in construction clean up and depending on the week and how many jobs my boss gives me it can be really good money. If I didn’t sign a non-compete and worked for myself I could make SOOOO much money, it’s sick. Don’t even need a high school diploma for that job. I get $22.50+/h

I know a window cleaner and even with the really short season up here he makes such good money. He works long hours during summer and fall but gets to kick back and relax all winter and makes 6 figures!
