If you get the shoes and want to dye them yourself you can always use RIT dye.  Also, ask the store if they add something in their dye to make it hold better.  When I was working with fibers in school we always added a little vineger to the dye before dipping the fabric it.  This helps it take.  Also, it is really hard to avoid the bleeding.  It is caused becuase there is "extra" dye that isnt stuck to the fibers well and that is what bleeds.  I made a quilt 4 years ago starting with white fabric hand dyed blue and it has faded a few shades, but is still blue.

 

If you dye it yourself, take your time and after the shoes dry dip them in cold water.  some dye will bleed here, but what is left over should hold up pretty well.
