Have any of you ever hired friends to take your engagement pics? If so, how much did you compensate?
My best friend’s younger sister is an amazing photographer (photo major in an amazing program) and jumped at the idea of taking some pics of us in a local park once the rose garden is in bloom this June. I’ve never been great at negotiating things, but I definitely would like to compensate her and I just don’t know how much or when I should offer – any advice?
We’re not planning for anything elaborate – probably just gonna have one outfit and get some nice shots, mostly because the nicest pic we have together is the one in my avatar and it’s from 2007 (lol).

A professional that would charge you would be anywhere from 300-500. Does she expect to be paid, or does she want to have fun and just take some pictures. It soudnsl iek she just wants to take pictures. I would offer to take them (your friend and her sister) out to dinner as a little thank you.

when I was shooting, i charged $150 for an hour session. i would probably still charge that. I would say $100 is good amount for her time and experience level.

@MissCalifornia: Reallyl depends on what you want and how long the shoot will be. Do you want prints or just retouched images on CD?
Since she is not a pro, I would say a reasonable price would be a 2 hour shoot, and a CD of ~50 retouched images for around $200. She may be willing to do it for less for the experience and portfolio images. Why don’t you ask her what her expected compensation is?
