I don’t really stop using FB but I can go on my day without using it.  It’s nice to see how my friends/relatives/family doing there (we now live half world away) but I don’t need to do it everyday.  Once or twice a week is good enough for me.  What happened when you did close your account?  Everything you posted there inc. pictures and videos are all gone?

I went 9 months without it after my ex. I moved back to ON for 5 months, cleared my head up, and deactivated. SO LIBERATING.

But to be honest I cracked after I met Fiance. I just completely scrapped my old FB and made an entirely new one, with only 30 friends.

I’ve never had an account (I moonlight as Darling Husband now and then), BUT I did have a student write a research paper on FB addiction, because SHE was addicted. I suggested to her that as part of her research, she could editorialize about what it was like for her personally to experiment by going without for a few days. She went a week and said it was exactly like withdrawl for a couple days, but pretty soon, she forgot about it. It’s kind of like when you go to a foreign country and they don’t have TV or don’t have it in English, but a few days go by and you don’t even miss it.

I dropped it for about 9 months once, and picked it back up because it become necessary for a volunteer position I had. The first week was very hard, but after that, it was wonderful. I felt so free! Plus, it’s always nice to find out news from the actual person.

@AutumnMrs:  I suspect that you’ll find that you won’t care about things unless they’re REALLY worth caring about ๐Ÿ™‚

I’ve seriously been considering deactivating my account as well. It feels like pure vanity sometimes. I get tired of such and such a person bragging about such and such a great thing in their lives. I get tired of a lot of things about it. I feel the need to ignore half the “friends” I have on there, especially the ones who post nothing but pictures of their children and do mindless updates on how junior took his first dump etc. *I do not care!* But then there are the random updates from my relatives abroad, relatives I’d never be able to see otherwise… or the science news articles or updates on the groups I joined related to my passions in life etc. Gosh. It’s tough. Maybe I need to weed out certain “friends” more than just plain old unsubscribe?

Edit: I also sometimes wonder about the bee!!! I find myself mindlessly typing this place’s URL. It’s been a year since our wedding. It’s not like I’m TTC or buying a house. Yet I keep coming back!!!!!!
