Uhm, yeah I think it’s cute and all, but $25 for a print of THAT? It doesn’t even come with a frame, and it’s really not all that original.

@Nic01:  I don’t think it was harsh. It’s a solid color background with another solid color block writing on it. Not even a special or unique font face. The only thing remotely original is the little house clip art.

I realize that sellers have to make money off their products, and can’t just go around charging cost. But $25? No thank you, ma’am. But yes, to each their own. I’m sure there are things that I would spend oodles of money on that others would think I was crazy.

I personally don’t think the price is the issue for me, but it reminds me too much of those “Keep Calm and Carry on” or “Keep Calm and (insert phrase here)” knockoffs that are everywhere now.  I even saw a middle aged, overweight man wearing a shirt with that phrase on it when I was on the ferry a couple days ago!!  I stared for a bit, then poked my Fiance and asked him to verify that I was actually seeing that.  Sorry to get off track, but for me personally, it reminds me of that too much.

I think it’s really cute and I would be happy if someone gave this to me.  I am pretty hopeless when it comes to decorating, and my friends tease me for having such bare walls in my apartment.  It’s very thoughtful gift and I’m sure your friends will appreciate it.

I think it’s a cute idea but I think you could easily DIY this for even less money.  I know it’s not about the money but honestly, this is super simple.  I, personally, would have a hard time justifying it.  Just throwing my opinion out there.  This is what I would do — I’m crafty but I don’t think this really requires you to be.

Make a word document, type the same phrase, adjust the font type/size/color to your liking, you could add a clipart you liked, then print it out on whatever color paper (or perhaps one of those stationary papers w/a border around the phrase).

Then I’d hit up Ikea for a frame because they have nice frames for cheap!  I’ve had my eyes on some of their white cottage-y looking ones, lol.  And then what I would do, after the print has been framed, is go pick up a little basket, put the frame in the basket and add some party supplies or something like that?

Is your friend a baker?  Maybe add some stuff for baking?  Or, do they like to cook?  Add some stuff for a pasta night party.  Perhaps a bottle of wine?

Since you saved on DIYing the print you could add a bit more the gift.  It doesn’t have to be anything over the top and fancy.  I just think it’d add a nice touch and get them started on really having their home filled w/friends.  They could plan a nice get together or something w/the supplies in the basket.  Plus the basket could easily be used for storage later ๐Ÿ™‚ who doesn’t need a cool basket?

@Nic01:  Well, I for one think it’s super cute, and also suck at DIY stuff and would way rather pay someone $20 for something I know will be cute than to spend a bunch of time and money on something that won’t come out right and will just leave me frustrated. And the whole ‘Keep Calm and _____’ designs are super popular, so I don’t really see why that is a negative. Bet your friend loves it.

Come on now guys, I’m someone who gets a little edgy about it when the mods say to be nice and seem to dislike constructive criticism…but that is when someone needs a reality check, not when they’re trying to share something cute they found online (that they didn’t even ask for an opinion on, just were excited to share their find).

I’d love it as a gift because I’m looking forward to non-registry gifts. Things that people put thought into.  I would be proud to hang this in my home ๐Ÿ™‚
