At my shower I received 16 place settings of everyday dishes. I had only registered for 12. I’m kind of torn on if I should return the 4 extras. The logically side of me says if I have 16 people over it will be for a holiday and I can use my family china (which has 20+ place settings). The other half of me is “what if one plate breaks & they are discontinued!” I’m leaning towards returning just to save space too.
What would you do?

@MissNumbers: I would probably return them. Even if 1 plate breaks, you still have plenty. I registered for ten settings, thinking 8 settings + 2 extra because I’m clumsy and my dogs like pull things off the counters. (I’ll be posting their pictures on the dog shaming thread when I get home)

Our everyday diishes did get discontinued and now I’m sooo anal about using them because I’ll be so upset if they brake. So I say keep the extras but maybe leave them in the box and store them out of the way so they don’t take up kitchen space.

I’d return – it’s just every day stuff that you likely won’t have forever.

I had the same thing happen. I wanted 12 and got 16 or 17. I think I ended up keeping one extra in case of a break and returning the rest.

I have 15 sets of my everyday dishes and LOVE having that many. They really don’t take up much more room since my set stacks nicely. But – if you have China for 20, then maybe you don’t need the extras.

My parents got 24 place settings of everyday dishes in 1969. All but four of those dinner plates are broken. It took THAT LONG to break them, even with 5 kids, and 4 grandkids living with them. I’d return the extra’s and see if there’s something else there you want.

Is there something you didn’t get that you want more than 4 place settings that you won’t use unless you break 10 dishes, if ever? If not, keep ’em, what the heck? If you really did want the ice cream maker attachment for your Kitchenaid, get it instead.

Maybe keep one extra place setting, but if there is something off your registry that you’d rather have, return them all and get that instead!

I’d return three and keep one back-up
