Here’s how it happened:
He’d been dropping hints all week that he’d be proposing soon, and he asked me earlier in the week whether I wanted it to be a surprise or not. He then specified that a non surprise would be a surprise and then a nice dinner (so, still a surprise, just not as elaborate as the kind of surprise he was thinking of, I guess). That sounded more like our style, so I was calculating in my head the next day that both of us would be free for a celebration dinner. Friday. If it were going to happen this week, it would be Friday.
So yesterday came around, and I wore a cool outfit to work just in case, and then he texted me asking what we should make for dinner. Since we’d be eating at home, I figured that meant it wasn’t happening. Fine, that’s ok, whatever. But when I got off the train, he told me to meet him at the coffee shop across the street from the station to get a banana carob chip smoothie (so delicious, so filling, so not something you would do if you were planning on going out to a nice dinner soon). He mentioned that he left the window open for our cat, so we needed to go home. For reference, here is the usual scene at the kitchen window:
I looked up, expecting to see the cat sitting there creeping on the neighbors. But this time, there was something else in the window!:
Then he got down on one knee and asked me to marry him, and I said yes (duh!), and now we’re engaged! We told all the important people and celebrated with pizza and prosecco at the restaurant where we first met. It was 100% perfect, and I am so unbelievably excited. And of course, a ring picture:
