Hi fellow brides,
I am trying to have a tight-budget wedding. I got this really nice silk dress on ebay, which was a sample dress, but now am wondering how I can get it cleaned and also trim the hem — if someone did the same thing as me, let me know how you did it – and *if* you know a good but not rediculously expensive wedding dress cleaners around NYC, let me know — I don’t feel like spending $200 cleaning for a dress I bought on $125.

cleaning a wedding dress is mighty expensive, like at least 150. a trim shouldn’t cost too much, but you’re in nyc, so who knows. i would expect another 100.

By trim, do you mean shorten/cut or decorate? You can buy plenty of pretty trim for not terribly expensive, and if you have a friend who sews, ask for her/his assistance as a wedding gift!

Thanks for replies! Yeah I didn’t realize that cleaning and trimming would cost more than the price of the dress…now I feel I should’ve bought a blanc-new dress for $500 rather than buying a dress for $125 and spending $200 more on getting it ready. sigh.

What is the dress made out of? The bridal salon that I bought my dress from (it was a high end sample shop) told me the wash their dresses in a tub of soapy water. Then hang dry them and steam them.
