So I thought I would be proactive and got my first mamogram a couple weeks ago. I am 36 years old…but since my mom was diagnosed with breast cancer when she was 43 I thought I would start screening early. Well I got a letter from the hospital yesterday that I need to come back so they can take more images of a specific area. (although they note in the letter that it is most likely not cancer….that does not make me feel better as they send the same letter to women who end up with it actually being cancer). The letter said that the hospital would contact me within 7 business days to set up an appt…I know I cannot wait that long and I will be calling them tomorrow. Has anyone else gone though this?? I am completely freaking out!

I have not but my mom has. She also had breast cancer. I cannot personally understand but I have seen it second hand. We are here for you!

I’ve had the same letter a couple of times. I just had to go back for another mammo. Never needed any other follow up after the second mammo.
It’s normal to be anxious.

my mom went through this last year, she had her usual regular mamogram (never had BC in the past) and got a letter in the mail and she had to wait weeks for her appointment.
after spending the entire day there (i took the morning off work to take her and one of the machines broke down but they didnt tell anyone so women were sitting & waiting for half the day wondering how bad was the news) she was told it was nothing to be concerned about and everything was fine
goodluck and sending my best positive thoughts your way

Thanks for the responses ladies…I just called to make the appointment to go back…the soonest they have is this Thursday…then I am sure they won’t get back to me with the results until next week…ugh…this is going to be a long week!

Went in today for more imaging…they were concerned with 3 areas (2 in 1 breast 1 in the other)…they took another mammogram of the areas they were worried about. The radiologist determined that it is not cancer…just breast tissue had overlapped in my original mammogram. (due to my ‘dense’ breast tissue) PHEW!!! I have to say I have been terrified this week!!! I shed many tears thinking about my baby girl having to grow up without her mommy! I don’t envy anyone who has had to go through this!

some women have cysts in their breasts and it has to be removed, happened to a friend of mine. I am glad you starting going early, everyone with a history in their family should

What happened?! Hope you’re alright. I’ve never had a mammogram, but I was referred for an ultrasound once. Everything was all right in the end, and hopefully it will be in your case too. I’ll say an extra prayer.
