UGH! I’m right there with you. I work from home, and today I was up to my elbows in a particularly nasty project that is due ASAP. My boss is emailing about something due tomorrow, and because I didn’t answer right away he asked me, “Are you even there?”

Come on! I’ve been here, at this desk, in my house, four 4 years, without ever missing a deadline!!!!!

Oy, I am glad my company isn’t super weird about us working all the time. No human can be “on” every single moment. Taking little breaks is good for you. Since I know the environment is more or less supportive of that at my work, even though people are timid about it, I try to be really open with my work habits. I have told my boss many times that I tend to work in spurts—get a lot done, then take a break. I go for a walk every afternoon to get some sunshine and exercise, and people think it’s kind of weird, like they are afraid to leave (they could if they wanted to)! I think it’s weird that they want to stay indoors all the time when it’s gorgeous out. And if I’m reading Weddingbee at work and my boss comes by, I don’t minimize the screen—she knows I work for the site and we have talked about it before. I figure, as long as my work stays great, they don’t have anything to complain about.

My boss is okay.  He’s kinda tough to read sometimes, but he’s a good guy.  My heinous (sp?) bitch of a co-worker?  Now that is another story entirely.

I used WB at work.. but I worked flat out and I had a coworker call me on it one day.. he said you always minimise the screen. I basically said to him… Im not a smoker…. so while you go have your 15 minute break or pick up the newspaper and read it at your desk, Im with the younger generation and we use the internet. I also said to him there is no company policy on internet use and you can ask various people of what they think is acceptable, some surf youtube, weather channels, news, stock shares?

Also.. work gives us a company phone. I barely use mine, but I know you call your dad, aunty and uncle and cousins and everyone else and work pays for it? so whats the differance!

That shut him up never heard a bo peep since!

To be honest, I think I have the most obnoxious boss ever, and I always tell everyone she is a one of a kind. So with that in mind, if I leave my job I have a chance of never having to work for such a physco again! haha…ok it sounds like im exaggerating but get this:

I make a small typo and I get – “You are just not educated enough!” yelled across the room

I send an email to her with a suggestion on a new process and I hear: ::new mail alarm::…::click::….::scroll::….Loud laughter coming from her office…silence…

If I mess up on ANYTHING I have to do it over again 10 or more times…

I get a new project handed to me by her but before she leaves she says “Now remember, this will require THINKING so make sure you do that…”

I take a phone call outside for 5min and when I return into the office, I get called into her office and asked “Why are you taking your calls outside? Are you interviewing?? Why are you being so secretive??”

I made a point to not tell her about my proposal but after listening in to my conversations to other employees, she came over and said “Oh good, he FINALLY did it”

I’m going to stop now because if I listed everything this post would be too long lol.

Haha, my boss better not do that to me b/c I get in before him and leave after him every day.. and never work from home with my kids screaming in the background every time I get on the phone.
