Hi TTC Board-ers – I am just popping in to share my excellent news, after our 2nd cycle trying, I am pregnant! My fiance and I are in total disbelief, we did not expect this to happen so fast. Our wedding is in 5 weeks. But we couldn’t be happier, and we are hoping this bean sticks! My period was due Sunday, and I have been getting positive tests every morning since Saturday.
I have some mild pregnancy symptoms – hurt-y boobs and nipples, mild cramping, peeing more than normal, and a brain fog that comes and goes (which is similar to what I usually get the day before my period).
I have perused some other posts with a similar question, but does anyone have any brilliant ideas for fake-drinking? My bachelorette is this weekend and my Maid/Matron of Honor is the only one (other than my fiance) who knows about the BFP and I’d like it to stay that way until 12 weeks! Saying that I am on antibiotics or I don’t feel like drinking is not an option because all my friends know me as a party girl and many of them also suspect that we are already TTC or will be soon. They would see right through an excuse like that! Mocktails it is… hopefully nobody suspects anything. We are really excited about breaking the news to my Mother-In-Law and my mom (both are VERY eager to be grandmas already!) and we really don’t want anyone to ruin it for us…

Congrats! What kind of drinks do you usually get?
If you’re a beer girl, get beer in a dark bottle & go to the bathroom (dumping the water slowly into the toilet sounds like peeing) fill the empty beer bottle with water (sounds like washing your hands).
If you’re a mixed drink or a wine kind of girl, it’s time to make nice with a bartender. Certain fruit juices mixed with a little water can look like wine. My go-to drink when I was still in the pregnancy closet was soda water and cranberry. I dislike very sweet drinks, so this worked well for me. You could also do sprite or ginger ale with juice if you like something sweeter.

Congratulations!! I was going to say everything DaneLady said about drinks, so I think those are great ideas!

@DaneLady: haha ‘in the pregnancy closet’, love that.
Thanks, those are good ideas. I drink beer and mixed drinks so I will probably use both of them.
Anybody have any ideas on what to do if someone just passes me a shot? I guess I could be like ‘ohh mygod, if I drink that I’ll throw up’ or something…

Congratulations!!! Cranberry juice and water is always a good one.

Congratulations 🙂 Sparkling water and juice can look like an alcoholic drink.

@mepayne: thanks! Yea that was the major worry, of course, but I asked my mom and my Future Mother-In-Law about it a while ago and they said they didn’t get much nausea at all (supposed to be really hereditary) so I’m a little less worried.
The bigger potential issue is, yikes, I wonder if I am going to be able to shove my boobs into my wedding dress?? It was already pretty tight around the bust to begin with! Especially if they are still sore… how long does the boob-soreness last?
I actually have a secret, just in case maternity-ish wedding dress that I bought for super cheap at a thrift store, it’s not as fancy and wedding dress-y as my real dress, but at least I have an emergency backup (and luckily it is an absolutely gorgeous dress).

@araneidae: If you are tied down and FORCED to do a shot, make sure you have a chaser so you can spit it back.
As for your boobs… well let’s just say I was over 7 weeks pregnant at my wedding & had to ask them to let my dress out an inch. Everything will work out ok 🙂

@araneidae: CONGRATS ! i am sure your wedding dress will be fine. i was 14 weeks pregnant at my wedding and you couldnt even tell.

Congratulations!! My drinking cover so far has been to get a glass of wine (or whatever) and pretend to sip it then every once in a while I have my Darling Husband take a large swig. Eventually it gets empty. Maybe ask Maid/Matron of Honor to be your drinking “wing girl” and make some of your drinks disappear?
