1) Advil an hour before and

2) They can give you lidocaine cream at some salons.

Sorry you had such a terrible first time! Also, try a place with hard wax, it hurts a lot less. I have laughing, fun conversations with my aesthetician, it hurts less than getting my nails done!

PS, I can send you a recommendation for a great place outside Boston if you ever want to try it again! PM me

@merenguito: Yikes, I know the feeling. I’m a bleeder…the first and only time I ever had this done, I had bits of cotton ball tufts stuck to me. My boyfriend at the time kept asking me when Bunny Foo Foo could come out to play. It was not a pleasant experiene.

@FrozenFeet: LMAO at Bunny Foo Foo!

I had mine done after taking 3 quick acting Extra Strength Advils 30 mins before and it still made me cry and take breaks. But it definitely would have hurt much worse if I had gotten it waxed with regular wax. I did sugaring, which only sticks to the hair, not the skin, so it doesn’t remove a layer of skin when you rip it off. I’d strongly suggest doing sugaring next time. And a painkiller!

I always bruised terribly when I got them, regardless of who I used (I definitely learned that one place was superior to another).  Then, I was pretty tender for a few days.  I gave it up after a while…I just couldn’t justify the pain and the days of recovery.

What’s more, when I started thinking about it, the message disturbed me…looking like a pre-pubescent girl isn’t exactly sexy (my Fiance agreed).  You can be well groomed and forgo the ordeal. ๐Ÿ™‚

Idk, I really want to go for this… but I know it will be bleeding and pain. Ugh.

It DOES get better after the first time, especially if you do it regularly.  (But I’ve been waxing for about 6 years, and I’ll admit there are still times when I have to clench my fists to get through it.)  And I second blu77’s suggestion about finding a place that uses hard wax – it’s definitely better.

@FrozenFeet: Little bunny foo foo BEST LINE EVER!

I hate Brazillians too. The worst for me are all the ingrowns that happen when it grows back…no amount of exfoliating pr creams will solve this. Plus, you have to walk around looking like chinchilla crotch for a good few weeks…so the trade off JUST isn’t there. I shave daily, I am bare daily. Good deal.

Yeah, there was a post on here about a month ago that made me consider trying it.  Well, this thread just made me not want to try it.

I was going to try it because I hear “it’s not that bad.” Yeah, your post just scared me.

Sorry for your horrible experience. Well, at least you can tell everyone you’ve tried it, right? ๐Ÿ˜‰

I just had my first one done last week, and I actually had both legs done as well–I didn’t think that the brazilian was bad, but my lower legs close to my ankles was not pleasant! I have heard that things get better if you continue on…it was def worth the uncomfortable few minutes to not have to shave for the next several weeks!

@kermie: I’m not sure if everyone gets ingrowns because I didn’t get any, not even bumps. And I didn’t exfoliate or put creams on at all. And it doesn’t even all grow back as much as before (and it’s finer hair now). I’m willing to do it again and again for a little pain every time (it’s supposed to be not as bad as you keep going) and for me at least, the least painful place was the back area, so I don’t mind it at all. It also helps if you have a distraction like talking about the wedding and stuff with the person.
