There’s a lot crazier things someone can do than touching your hand and asking about your ring whilst giving you a compliment. If you get pregnant someday, strangers will touch your belly out of intuition, and they’re not all crazy psychotic bitches.  Sometimes it’s just human behavior.

If I had worked with/around someone all day I might touch their ring and ask about it, too.

SaraJeanQ:  I don’t think it’s acceptable to touch strangers, ever. People seem to think that when you become pregnant that all of a sudden you are community property and they can put their hands all over you and ask you strange, intrusive/judgemental questions. If I am ever pregnant and an ‘intuitive’ stranger decides to touch me, woe betide them.

OP’s space was invaded by someone that decided to cast judgement for having a large, flashy ring. You don’t have to be accomodating of people that decide that they are entitled to violate your personal space and ask you rude questions.

Geez, bees- give the OP a break! This lady was clearly not poor if she’s rolling up in a Benz (and even if she was, it’s incredibly prejudicial to assume that a poor person has no concept of “jewelry etiquette” or proper manners!). ksn1219 is simply sharing her shock that ANYONE would have the gall to grab a stranger’s hand. If this had happened anywhere but a thrift store I would be willing to bet you’d be as shocked as she was.

I would have said “Is what real?” and then she’d say “Your ring!” and then I’d say “Who said that???” and then walk away… 😛

There are some strange thought processes going on in this thread.

Grabbing a stranger’s hand and raising your voice with them is not acceptable under any circumstances. It’s flat out rude, aggressive and borderline scary.

OP, I also would have been too shocked to say anything.

Having a diamond vs. moissy discussion with a stranger who just grabbed my hand would be the last thing on my mind.

Getting some personal space from the hand grabber would be the FIRST thing on my mind, lol.

Just wanted to say your ring is beautiful!! I’d probably grab your hand just to look at it too! 😉

Of course it matters where you were.  Given where you were, assuming others are shopping there for the price point out of need and not desire, I’m sure they were shocked to see someone with a ring that look like it could could “an entire puppy shelter” assuming it was a diamond.  It was likely more shock that accusatory.  I got a “wow, is that real” at my handbag when I first met Mother-In-Law.  No, she wasn’t trying to call me out on a fake (which it wasnt)… she was probably a little shocked to see her son dating someone that would spend that much on a handbag.  I found it to be neither offensive or rude.
