Today is Wednesday and I just got my period! I get married on Friday! My period is the heaviest on day 2-3 so I’m screwed. I’m not at all concerned with the “wedding night” if you know what I mean. We’ve been together almost 6 years it won’t be any different. I’m worried about changing my tampon while wearing a wedding dress! Are my friends going to have to help me hold the dress up and see me change it??? I’m so upset! I wasn’t supposed to start until Monday but I’ve been told stress can cause it to come earlier. Ugh!!! Any advice???

blush87: BUMMER! That happened to my sister, too! Another Bridesmaid or Best Man and I held up her dress so it wouldn’t hit the toilet, but we were still able to look away while she took care of business.

blush87: I really don’t have any useful advice. Just here to comisserate. Maybe the link below will help you feel a bit better. : /

blush87: well think of it this way, a friend who doesnt mind watching you pee will not mind you changing your tampon, its not like they need to be staring at you while you do it. Do you have any close female relatives like a mother or sister who could help you with that? Also, im not sure how your body is but i get very bloated right before my period and the bloating is gone by about day 2-3 so theres your silver lining. I am expecting to get my period about 3 days before my wedding and i just tell myself that at least is wasnt the week before when im fat, pmsing, and ready to rip everyones head off

blush87: LEMONS!!! Lemons help make the flow lighter.

blush87: calm down. its going to be ok. i would suggest wearing a tampon, and to wear a liner just incase any possible leaking since you will be in white!
and yes, if you plan to change it. have a friend or your mom, or someone that you are very close with help you.
I am very open with my mom, sister and 2 of my GFs, so i would have no issue doing that in front of them!

Aw honey that sucks 🙁
But it won’t ruin your day, just be a little extra hassle. If I were you I’d line my hand with some tissue when extracting the thing, in case it’s a bit extra full. And definately wear a liner too if you can.

Get a DivaCup, then you don’t have to worry about changing your tampon!

Xu: That is hilarious!
OP — I’m so sorry! My best tip is to drink A LOT OF RED RASPBERRY LEAF TEA. I don’t know if it works for everyone, but when I drink it, it can help shorten my period a LOT and make it less heavy! Go buy some now! Go! Go! Follow the instructions on the box!

I agree with a PP. Have you ever tried a menstrual cup? I never have, but my friends who use them say they are worth their weight in gold.

if it were me in this situation, when we get to the venue my husband would be the one holding the dress. He’d still look away obviously lol It sucks for you though 🙁
all good suggestions too for limiting any tiny red marks transferring to your dress.

This was my biggest fear for my wedding. I got lucky and got mine today, so I’ll be free and clear on my wedding day and honeymoon – thank goodness. I feel so bad for you love!! I would wear an extra liner just in case of leaking (I tend to run really heavy those first 3 days)

If you have a zip-up dress, you can take it off entirely with someone’s help. My friend did this at her wedding when she wanted some privacy in the bathroom – I helped her step out of it, held up the dress and went outside the bathroom with it, and then she stepped back into it when she was done. It was actually very easy and quick!

blush87: My advice is to relax– you can’t change a thing.
I would have been *delighted* to have gotten my period 2 days before my wedding– I bloat and gain like 7-8 pounds of water weight. We planned our wedding around that time of the month, but with everything going on, my cycle got messed up. I ended up being THE MOST bloated the day of my wedding– getting my period the morning after 🙁
I am so damn lucky I had a corset dress or it would not have fit. I felt beautiful in my last fitting which was only a week before the wedding….and I looked very bloated the day of. I still cringe when I think of it!!

All good advice! Maybe I’ll test out the divacup the day before. I’m at the mall and plan on getting the tea also! I think I would be more comfortable with my fiancée in the bathroom with me than my friends, only because I’m very self-conscious.
Im so glad I posted and got all these helpful replies!
