I am personally not a fan of halos, particularly doubles, but I prefer the proportion and execution of the stones on the second, without the additional halo. Is there any way that could be redone without starting from scratch? Have you gotten an estimate?
I really like the double halo, and I’m not usually in to halos! I think it looks really good with the pear shape- leave it for a year or two and see if it grows on you Xx
I greatly prefer the original. I’m assuming you used the same stone? The double halo just swallows it making it look small and grey to the point that I wasn’t even sure it was the same stone. Is it the worst looking ring I’ve ever seen? Not by a long-shot. It’s at least well-constructed – I just don’t care for most halos, let alone double halos. It definitely reads cocktail ring to me and it’s a very nice cocktail ring, but I personally don’t like it as an engagement ring. I love me some cocktail rings and like to dress them up or down. But they are what they are.
I guess my concern with this current ring is do you have your wedding band picked out yet? Cause with the size of the current ring basically taking up almost the entire width of your finger and extending far beyond the band on either side, unless you’re planning to have one hell of a gap or do a custom wrap-style making it even larger, it’s going to basically hide your wedding band making it virtually invisible. I hope if you do have a band it is at least fairly plain and doesn’t have detailing you care about showing.
ETA: I didn’t realize you are already married. Do you also wear a wedding band then or is this your only ring? I guess if this is your only ring, then it’s not so bad. Not my preference, but I”m not the one wearing it.
First of all, I’d like to thank everyone who took the time to post. I really appreciate everyone’s opinion, whether you like the new ring or not.
To answer your questions: I am already married and have a wedding band. I’m wearing it with the original ring. It’s a thin pavé. I just didn’t wear it when I took the second picture because I was trying to capture the ring itself and was already overwhelmed by it. The jeweler made sure it will sit flush, so I don’t really have a problem with that. I’ll post pictures with the wedding band in case you’re curious.
If I make another change I still won’t go back to the original design as there were things that bothered me with about it. I wanted more coverage because my hands tend to swell sometimes, to a point where I just feel self conscious because the ring highlighted that. But I wasn’t thinking THAT big obviously. As I mentioned before, I like halos, just not this massive.
For those saying the stone looks grey, it’s normal. It changes colors in different lightings and goes from blue to grey to an almost green hue. Its size appears different sometimes as well because of the way it reflects the light. My issue is not the way it makes the stone look, but how the ring looks on my finger.
I also want to thank everyone who suggested different options for buying a setting. It was lovely of you to take the time and explain where I can go. However if I make the change I’ll just return to the same place because they are nice enough to give me some store credit and a little discount since my ering and our wedding bands are from them as well.
Of course I want to like it, I feel really bad about the whole thing, so it is comforting to see that some people find it beautiful, or at least appreciate the craftsmanship (can’t complain about that part, that’s for sure). Ultimately it comes down to whether I take it back to the jeweler or not. On one hand I really want to call them right now, but on the other I still feel guilty. I am in a position where I can do it, but it wasn’t always the case and I don’t throw money away like that. It was a big decision to have it reset in the first place (I thought about it for over a year) so going back like that is very out of character for me.
I guess my question now is have you ever learned to love a ring that you didn’t like at all? Or am I just wasting time?
Oops couldn’t upload several pics at once. Here’s how it looks on my hand
I think it’s super beautiful…not necessarily to my personal tastes but I think you can rock it. I think it sounds like a good idea to wait a couple of months and see if you learn to love it or still want to change it after that.
theweddingunplanner : my thing about the second ring is that is just SWALLOWS your stone whole. I don’t think it looks like costume jewelry. I just think it takes away from your beautiful stone. I would go with your gut on this one. It was an expensive mistake, but now you know for sure.
I think your ring looked lovely before but damn!! I really love the double halo!! I think it enhances the colour of your centre and it’s so stunningly beautiful!! I love it Bee don’t be sad. It was a big change but I’m sure you will grow to love it. It does not look like costume jewellery at all!! 😍😍😍theweddingunplanner :
