I’m sorry hun, that is sad. Thank you for considering adoption! I volunteer at the Humane Society here and I wish more people would adopt instead of buying from a breeder.

I’d feel the same way!  I’ve totally fallen for a dog at our local shelter but Darling Husband and I don’t want to adopt her until next week since we will be out of town this weekend for Labor Day and don’t want to have to board her immeadiately.  If she gets adopted between now and then by someone else, I’ll definitely be bummed.

At least someone else out there loves that little dog as much as you do!  I’m pro adopting 100%.

@Mrs.ChubbyBunny:  I adopted a week ago from the local humane society.  They’re terrible.  I hope your place has a much better reputation/

@accorn: maybe your lack of dog time makes you desire them more than you originally thought

@accorn:  well i will be hoping something falls thru with the process in motion, as it can happen. if it doesn’t, then there another little guy out there who needs you more.

@accorn:  I am the same way! I fall in love with EVERY dog/cat at any shelter.  I’ll even take a stray home.  If I could, I would save every animal there.  We have adopted 2 cats and a dog from a shelter.  I love my animals like they’re my children (I have none).  I understand what you mean and it’s okay!  It just means you’re compassionate.

@accorn: I’ve felt this way too 🙁 FH wants a 2nd dog so bad, but its just not a good time for us.  I want another one too but recognize more than him that we can’t really do it now.

All of the dogs I have ever had are adopted and I intend to keep it that way!!!

I just adopted a cat from a shelter myself. Turns out another person had an application out on him and then changed their minds. When you’re ready to bring a dog home, the right one will find you.

The same thing happened to me before.  A few years ago when I was still living at home, I convinced my mom that we needed to adopt a dog I found at a shelter.  She finally gave in, and then when I called he was already in the process as well.  It stinks.  I totally know how you feel. Maybe they’ll change their mind!

Katy Elle is right.  Your dog is still out there waiting for you to find it.  It’s kind of like falling in love with a house and getting out-bid.  It’s just obviously not meant to be and something better is around the corner:)
