Maybe you can alternate centerpieces?  Have 1/2 the tables with the tall centerpieces you originally planned for and the other 1/2 the tables with low, more cost-efficent centerpieces?  It won’t be exactly your vision but closer than doing all short!

Can you also look into using cheaper flowers in the centerpieces?  Maybe that alone can bring the cost down!

Have you gotten quotes from several different florists?  I had one florist quote me over $100 for the same centerpieces I’m getting from another florist for $45!!

What about getting a quote from another florist?  Or maybe alternate tall and short centerpieces?

Ah, she beat me to the answer! lol

Do you have an Xcess Cargo? I bought all my tall centerpeice vases for 9.99 which really cut down the amount per centerpeice and Im having hydrangra, garden rose, filler and amaranthus?

The altering of 1/2 tall and 1/2 short would work great.

And since you seem more concerned with the HEIGHT rather than the actual flowers…. can you negotiate using the cheapest in-season flower they will have?

Also I’d make sure you watch with the quotes vs the real day.  I’ve heard a lot of stories about how the florist will charge a lot more than what they quoted you, due to flower availability and other factors.

order from sams club.

I had the most amazing flowers ever from them (I had to assemble myself) but I LOVED them and it was super inexpensive!

@Missido:  “She charges $15 for her vases which is not a huge cost.”  That does sound like a huge cost…here’s you an idea I am doing.  I have gone to thrift stores, flea markets, etc and gathered all of my big vases I have found for like $2-4 a piece.  See if you can provide the vases if she does the arrangements.  If you had 20 tables that cuts your budget by around $250, then maybe try to find cheaper more in seasoned flowers or something that is grown local.  That would also cut costs.  Or tell her what your budget is, she’s the expert with flowers so I bet she could come up with something beautiful in your price range.

Cutting costs has been the theme of my wedding it seems.  I’m meeting with our florist for the first time this afternoon and am scared to death its going to be more than I budgeted for.  Good luck

@Missido:  Weddingbee is GREAT for support!  Check out the Month Twins boards too!

I have the same date as you.

My floral quote was like 9 dollars a stem for peonies.  I decided to just buy the peonies myself from a farmer and DIY our flowers.  The farmer is charging us $1/stem.

What if you did the bridesmaids bouquets yourself? You could get a bunch of flowers from Sam’s or Costco and have a bouquet making party the day before with all of your girls? It would be super fun and a great way to kick off the wedding weekend together!
