A while back, I wrote about how I won a one-of-a-kind gown by Jorge Manuel through an essay contest he ran. Out of 250+ entries, I was one of 5 finalists and ultimately, I was picked as the winner.
Last weekend, they flew me down to Charleston, SC to try the gown on at Maddison Row, a beautiful bridal salon there.
There dress is definitely unusual and it was more poufy than I originally expected it to be. Once it gets altered, I hope the silhouette will shrink a little bit!
Jorge also made a beautiful, chapel length veil to go with the dress
You can see the veil better here…
Jorge called to chat while I was wearing the dress…
Even though it looks heavy, the dress was actually pretty light, probably because it’s mostly silk taffeta.
I love the floral detail on the top…
It’s so unusual that it hasn’t really sunk in that this is mine!

It’s really awesome, what a great win! You look so happy in it! I’m sure they’ll do all the alterations to fit you to a T. So did they pick the dress for you or did you choose it?

OMG that dress is BEAUTIFUL! It’s unique but still classic at the same time. Not too poufy at all! I love it, and congratulations.

@sweetiejewels: The dress was already completed when they ran the contest. I saw it described as both a-line and ballgown…I guess it’s somewhere in between!
There are easily five layers of crinoline under it (maybe more?) and I think I’m going to ask my seamstress to remove 1-2. It’s very poufy!
I’m doing to alterations here in Charlottesville, so I don’t have to travel down to Charleston for fittings…not that I’d mind. It’s such a beautiful place!
Is it horrible that I might ask the seamstress to remove 2 of the pleats if taking out a layer of crinoline doesn’t take it down a notch?

It is just perfect for you.

@Jeannine @ Small Chic: I don’t think that’s horrible at all. Nothing wrong with making it unique for you 🙂
