Hey graduated pee-ers!  We finally got the NIPT results back and found out that not only were all the results for genetic conditions negative (thank god!!!!!!!) but it’s a BOY!  It’s all so real now ๐Ÿ˜€

DrunkInLove :  So sorry your little girl is having a hard time eating!  Don’t feel guilty, you’re doing the best you can.  Poor kiddo, I hope the interventions work quickly.

KittyYogi :  congrats! What a relief that the NIPT came back clear!

AFM, I had an ultrasound today at 8+3 and all looked good! We got to see the baby moving, which was so surreal. The heartbeat flicker was much more blatant this time than at 6w, which was so cool to see. Next appt will be in early May for my 12 week US and the NIPT. My OB knows I’m a nervous wreck so she offered to do as many ultrasounds as I need between now and then, but I am trying to be brave and hold off lol.

tiffanybruiser :  thank you!!  So relieved, especially since we’re at the ages where chances do go up fairly dramatically.

That’s awesome the 8w ultrasound was all good!  Regarding NIPT, they can run it from a blood draw starting at 10 or 10.5 weeks.  So if you’re anxious about it (just a wild guess lol), you could see if you could go in then just to do the blood draw.  It was like a 5 min appointment.  I had to wait until I was almost 13 weeks cause I was waiting on my dumb insurance to approve it, but I sure wanted to know asap.

KittyYogi :  congrats!

Are you going to do the NT ultrasound too?

My doc wants all her patients (regardless of age) to do either the sequential screen or NIPT; carrier screening; and the NT ultrasound.  I thought it was a little surprising but my insurance will cover it all* so may as well.

*The carrier screening is actually cheaper if I just use Integrated Genetics “Mothers helping mothers” program, rather than insurance–they said if I fill out this super long survey after I get my results it’ll be $299, instead of the $440 via insurance.

amanda1988 :  Thanks! ๐Ÿ˜€  And apparently you expire for the NT scan at 14 weeks, so I guess I’m not doing that…  14w4d today.

Yeah I also recently found out that the NIPT is pretty cheap, $299, if you do that survey for them (this is through Sequenom – the MaterniT21 test).  Annoying that I sat around waiting for so long for my insurance to dither about it… and they still quoted me $800!

KittyYogi :  Integrated Genetics does MaterniT21.. Sequenom must be a secondary name?  https://www.integratedgenetics.com/tests/pregnancy  Looks like we’re getting tested through the same lab. ๐Ÿ™‚

Surprisingly NIPT was covered and much cheaper for me.. only $126.  No idea why it’s so much cheaper than carrier screening for me.  Possibly the test itself is just cheaper?  Eh.  lol.

I have my NT scan scheduled at 12+5 ๐Ÿ™‚  Very excited.  NIPT at 11+1… I could do it earlier but OB wanted me to come in when she was working so she could give me a peek at the fetus.

ETA: did some googling.  Integrated Genetics is the LabCorp division of sequenom, so I had it backwards–Integrated Genetics is the secondary name hah.  Either way, same test.

SeaOfLove :  I’ve been off WB for a few weeks, and I owe you the biggest congratulations!! Odessa is beautiful and your birth story sounds like as good as an unmedicated 1st time birth goes! Keep us updated on how BFing and these next few early weeks go <3!

DrunkInLove :  Sorry to hear about Sloan’s tongue ties. Just be sure your dentist (or ENT) is using a laser for the frenectomy. She’ll heal super fast and the there’ll be less blood to deal with ๐Ÿ™‚

AFM, I’m 20w4d today and have officially having a boy! We had an Easter gender reveal with family and friends. I’ve been feeling flutters and movement but no real “kicks”. I had my anatomy scan a few days ago and was told he has 3 soft markers for Down’s. This was a real downer (no pun intended) as my NT measurement and sequential screening were all very normal/low risk. We decided to do a NIPT (MaterniTi 21 Plus) and are now waiting for the results. I have my 5 month check with my Ob in 3 days, and hopefully he can shed some light on things.

Small update from us: another crazy flare up of mastitis as we get closer to the 12 week growth spurt. He nursed for 20 minutes, I pumped and got 6.5 oz out of the left side ONLY, then he nursed again. It still wasn’t empty.

Another round of antibiotics, joy. Woke up with a 102.8 fever, and my mind jumped straight to the flu, until I realized my boob was on FIRE and hard as a rock only 2 hours after he had nursed the second time.

I’m quickly becoming over this…

KittyYogi :  yay congrats!!!

amanda1988 :  hmmmm, my NIPT through Natera was $935. Apparently my insurance just put it toward my deductible, so now I’ve basically met my deductible for this year, but DAMN. I wish I had received a $126 bill!
