Are there any brides out there who are graduating right before getting married?
I am a college senior and am graduating after my summer semester in August 2012 and my wedding is in October 2012. I have been having trouble findind a part-time summer job, so I’m getting a little worried about finding a full-time job to help pay expenses.
We will be able to live off of my FI’s salary, but with combined student loans it will be a tight squeeze, and I would like to be able to contribute!
What did you/are you planning on doing? Any advice or just those who feel the same way- feel free to respond!!

I’m actually not walking at grad school graduation and will be on our flight to Paris instead lol!
Through grad school my Fiance has been paying most of our expenses. Luckily, I think my field site is going to hire me so that helps ease my mind but I still feel very guilty.
One thing…your student loans will not start billing until 6 mo after graduation and if you do not have a job you can defer them until you do.

@MrsElopement: Oh wow! That is cutting it super-close! I’m happy for you that you have a job lined up right away… that will really help you in the long run!
My Fiance will be paying for everything until I find a job, but our biggest student loan burden is actually coming from his end, so his cannot be deferred. : My loans won’t be too much of an addition compared to his, but without my contribution to make up for that chunk coming out of his paycheck every month, it might wind up being pretty tight with two people on the budget.
I think I’m just concerned about job opportunities. I’m going to look very seriously over the summer while I still have classes and hope that I can start part-time and switch to full time after I graduate. Unfortunately, with the economy the way it is, I know it can be really hard to find anything unless you have some sort of specialized degree.

I finished my master’s degree a month before getting married. I just worked my butt off trying to find a job and ended up getting something full-time two weeks after graduation. It can be done. 🙂 Don’t lose hope!

I’m getting my Master’s degree in May and getting married in September. I originally wanted a May wedding but 2 other friends are getting married in my, graduation, my dad’s birthday, and 7 months of planning would have put my bachelorette and shower in the winter.
I don’t know how excited employers are going to be when I say that I’m going to need two weeks for the honeymoon >.>

- Wedding: August 2013 - An amazing non-profit retreat
That is why we’re waiting. Sometimes people don’t understand the wait, but we’ve been relying on his income for so long that I want to be able to work and save for awhile. Trying to have our wedding this December rather than next December would be so much pressure on both of us.

Thanks everyone for all of your input! It’s nice to know that there are other brides out there in the same situation as I am. I guess my own advice would be that, if you are having trouble getting hired to a specific place, just apply everywhere and hope that the more you work, the better of a job you will eventually get! (That’s what I plan on doing during my summer semester when I’m taking half of the classes I’m taking now.)
Staying engaged for a while would be a good option for some people too 🙂 Fiance and I are just sooo ready to move on to this next chapter of our lives that we wanted to get married right away, but if we didn’t feel that way, I probably would have waited a little longer as well 🙂
I’m still feeling pretty nervous, but I guess that SOMEONE somewhere will have to hire me at some point! Even a small income can help, and I can look for better jobs while I build up my resume. 🙂

SAME EXACT SITUATION! My final semester ends in August and I’m getting married in October. I’m thankful to have SOME time to get things together before the wedding since i’ve only really had the time to focus on the essential things so far (venue, food, dress). But then again, there is a pressure to get a job right after…. I don’t think i’ll start looking for jobs until I get back from my honeymoon….

I am! I graduate May 18th 2013 and our wedding will be June 15th…less than a month later. FH will have already graduated the december before and will hopefully be working full time at the engineering firm he has interned with for the past 3 years, making a stable salary *woo*
I still dont know what I will do. I will start looking for a job for after graduation probably right aaround whe he graduates. For now, I’m still looking for a summr internship! but luckily I have a healthy savings account from working part time all through school, and no student debt, so I should be able to contribute even if I dont find a job right away!

We almost did, but decided to wait an extra couple of months. I graduated in May 2011 and we just got married March 2012, but it was still a bit stressful! We were doing all of our initial planning while I was in my final semester/finals – we had to go ahead and get the venue and photographer booked before I graduated.

We are 🙂 graduating May, getting married June. My parents “prefer” if I get married after I graduate, so we have a 3 year long engagement that I am very sour about. I am getting married ASAP! I’d do it in May if I knew the dates for graduation in advance 😉

I’m right there with u! I finish grad school in May and a month later getting married in June!! I’m working part time which is helping along with completely supportive family I’m living with until after the wedding. My biggest stress comes from moving and looking for a job I’m unsure about applying when I know I’ll need a couple weeks off if hired or not being able to answer my phone for about 2 weeks when we’re out of the country on Honeymoon. And the final this sending out resumes with what name on them. I plan to take his but would like to start looking before the wedding but depending on time frames don’t know to put my last name or my future new one. How are u ladies handling those things!
