Photoshop gurus…is there anything I can do in photoshop to make a photo appear less grainy? Whether it be making the picture black and white or using an action? I am still learning photoshop, so any advice would be appreciated.
I know there’s no way to make a bad picture look good, but I’m hoping there is a way to make a bad, grainy picture, look better.

Look for the “noise reduction” slider/actions.
You can reduce noise somewhat, but honestly can’t really get rid of it totally. ISO is definitely one of those things that’s better to get right in’camera. Bain of my iphone’s existence! 😉
Another trick is to turn it into a black and white.

@crayfish: Yeah, I think I did already tried noise reduction. But to get it to look better, I had to reduce the detail. I think black and white is the way to go. These are the only pictures I have of our cake cutting, so I’m trying to make them look ok.

Lightroom 3 or above works amazing for noise reduction. You can get a 30 free trial and if I were you I would just get LR. Its very affordable. I hardly ever use PS. Something in PS that takes 10 layers/steps takes 1 or 2 steps in LR.
