FMIL wants me to be incharge of the grand prize that someone will receieve (whomever has a butterfly under their chair)…
FSIL is a dental assistant, and her fiance is a Personal Trainer…she wants it to be something to do with that…
I’m stumped besides healthy protein bars and maybe a cool powered toothbrush? She wants a basket…so I need more ideas without it being too tacky!

Intersting – I’ve definitely never heard of this before! There professions aren’t really conducive to fun gifts either! I’ll keep thinking on this though…

@MrsWBS: I know….it’s like….ok I have my own tooth brush and my favorite tooth paste I don’t need that as a gift…..and work out stuff, what if one of her older relatives win?
No fun…I think I might talk to FMIL.

Maybe a basket of apples (an apple a day, keeps the dr – in this case dentist? – away) and then some fun stuff for the beach. If you use the personal trainer, you can wear your tiny bikini to the beach. Even if you have yet to start your sessions, you can still use the accessories?
A basket of apples, beach towel, and beach bag. Some sunblock and maybe a nice lip gloss to frame the lovely teeth?

I’d be better taken aback with a basket like that! I mean are you trying to say that I have poor dental hygiene and am out of shape? It could potentially be quite an embarrassing prize to win for some people especially if they are self concious about one or more of those things!
I would really talk to FSIL about changing the idea behind the basket!

Maybe a camera with a note that says “smile!” and a picture frame. The idea being that if you go to the dentist you will have a pretty smile for the camera.
for the personal trainer, maybe an ipod nano with workout songs, or gift certificate to a shoe store, or a blender/juicer (to make smoothies). my mom has a cool watch that takes your pulse and is for working out, she got it at walmart for about $20 but it is pretty neat even if you dont work out alot.

It’s cute she wants it to relate to the couple. How about a different theme other than their professions though?
I GC to their favourite restaurant along with their favourite type of wine. Or a GC to some activity they enjoy doing together – something like that.

I think you can definitely make it work and I don’t think it will insult anyone (since presumably the guests will know what the bride and groom do for a living). I’m actually co-hosting a shower and we’re doing something similar. Both the bride and groom are athletic and into bike racing and triathlon so we are putting together an athletic basket as one of the prizes. So I think the personal trainer one is easy, but the dental assistant is a little tricky. Here’s what I suggest:
Personal Trainer: Waterbottle, Cliff Bars or other protein bars, Gatorade, gym bag/tote, lock (to use for gym lockers), fun towel (hand and/or bath), CD of workout songs (or iTunes gift card), technical socks, technical shirt (with gift receipt so if it doesn’t fit they can get a size that does), hand weights, yoga mat, beginner yoga or workout DVD, gymnastic ball, gift card to a sporting goods store, an inspirational book/novel about sports – such as Born To Run, Once a Runner, Again to Carthage
I think even the older relatives could use some of this stuff – such as the socks, books, waterbottles, bag, towels
Dental Assistant: Toothbrush, floss, travel toothbrush and toothpaste, gum/mints, cute toiltry travel bag, toothbrush holder (travel or home use), those individual floss things that you can stick in your purse, cute face or hand towel, purse mirror
