*hug* I’m so sorry, I am extremely close with my grandparents so I know how you must feel. Mine has started falling, too, and I’m so afraid we’re going to get a call like that one of these days soon.

It’s hard to be away when things like this happen. Hopefully you can get the clearest info possible and I hope your grandma is okay.

I’m sorry to hear this! I’m glad that she recieved medical attention and here is hoping for a speedy recovery.

My grandmother fell last summer and was treated for pulled muscles only. It took the doctors six months (!!!!) to determine that perhaps she might have broken something as her pain only worsened. Come to find out she had a broken pelvis and was walking around without proper treatment. It makes me soooo mad!

@misskarianne:  I know can you believe it? To think she was up walking around during our trip to Tahoe and in tons of pain. Ugh it makes me so mad. She lives in a high senior area and yet the quality of medical care they have is beyond abysmal. They never did an x-ray in the area of her pain despite her telling them it hurt. She is doing fine now after they properly diagnosed her.

Sorry to hear about your Grandma.

This is my area of work.  Occupational Therapist working with seniors mainly around home safety.  There are some things around the house that your family should do to reduce her falls risk.

-Remove all throw/area rugs

-Grab bars in the shower.

-Home safety assessment and equipment use (Rollator, bath seat, raised toilet seats, toilet safety frame etc).

-Personal alarm system (like Lifeline)

-Wearing proper footwear.  Must have a back strap and a rubber sole

-Ask her to show you how she gets on and off of the toilet, in and out of the shower see how she does it.  Where does she grab?  Does she struggle with getting her leg over the edge? etc.

Falls are a real issue in seniors, so prevention of further falls is the best thing you can do for her.
