Wow, vicarswifeintraining, I definitely would be super creeped-out if my Fiance gave me lingerie he picked out with his mom.

I cannot relate but I think I would try to come up with some sort of excuse if it was me! I think it would be soo awkward.

I’m so paranoid about one of my relatives buying me something “sexy” for my shower!

Oh man I don’t think i’d be okay with this. There are just areas of my life that I like to keep very separate. Honeymoon and grandma are two of those areas haha.

also @ejs— what?! lol

This thread is cracking me up!!  Laughing

@morgan:  I wonder if your grandma intends to have The Talk with you or give you some bedroom advice during the trip to the lingerie store.

@bug-in-a-rug:  I would be creeped out too, but when you think about it, how many of our guys would actually be able to pick out something that fit us right?  Half of them would probably come back with something in a size 34D haha.

@coffeekitty:  A pinoir set is basically a sexy long night gown, sometimes with matching panties.

Yeah. She went to a “cupcake party” and needed to buy something so she bought me something. I was in the sorority house at the time and as soon as I hung up I ran up and down the hall screaming and everyone was like, “whaaat?” and poked their head out to see what was up.

Mentally scarred for life.

My mom thinks she’s my BFF sometimes, and she is, but sexy time is a boundary for me. She’s even asked me ‘how’ consummating our marriage was going (to be fair, mostly because she knows i have women’s health issues that cause pain, but still…i told her nonya biz….but still…) and wanted to make sure i had something sexy for our wedding night.

Sigh. My mom forgets she’s my mom sometimes =P

Just her way of waying that she knows you’re a grownup.  It will make for some great memories and stories in the future.  What a totally cool thing for her to do- go for it- she may buy you silk!

Traditionally, its the wedding night lingerie/nightie/robe bought by the Mom for the bride. It used to include  slippers with the fronts covered with feathers too!

A peignoir set is usually not very ‘sexy’ or sleezy…its just soft, romantic, maybe lacey, and usually white. Nothing to be embarrassed about at all. They are hard to find anymore, tho,so just pick something you’d wear for a romantic evening alone (not a tank/pj bottoms). Have fun with it. 🙂

Here’s some! HaHa! Just noticed in some pictures they’re still wearing those slippers.

OMG, if my grandmother wanted to go shopping with me for that I would die.  Then again, I don’t think my grandma would ask to do that so I’m probably good.

I’m not planning to buy anything—I plan to sack out that night because I know I’ll be exhausted from the excitment of the day and how long it will be!

My step-grandma pulled my SIL aside AT HER WEDDING to tell her ALL about her wedding night with my grandfather and how she basically did a strip tease wearing a corset and undoing one hook at a time.

Nice thing about this garment in particular is that it can be pretty yet tasteful. See picture attached in opposition to the more conservative/grandma version above!

Aww I love peignoirs!  Like I said earlier in the thread, I used to wander around eBay as a teen looking at the vintage ones.  So soft, delicate, and so many pretty colors!  Maybe they’re old-fashioned, but I still think they can be really romantic.  I just imagine blushing brides in the 60’s showing up on their wedding night with nothing on but two long, floaty layers of sheer fabric…doesn’t that sound like it’d be hot?  I kinda want to be that bride.

@jenbrander: the peignoir isn’t actually a nightgown, it’s the long, thin robe-type garment you see in the pictures people posted.  A peignoir set sometimes comes with a matching nightgown or panties or other underthing.

ejs: that experience sounds both horrifying and hysterical.  But what the heck is a ‘cupcake party’?

vintage hawt imo (I admit I’m the type of person to find a pencil skirt and buttoned-up silk blouse to be way sexy too):

and how gorgeous are these? http://cgi.ebay.com/GORGEOUS-VTG-LACY-CHIFFON-SILKY-NYLON-PEIGNOIR-SET-Md-/370374786779?cmd=ViewItem&pt=Women_s_Clothing&hash=item563c0ebedb#ht_8001wt_1165
