you know that popular of monsters and men song ‘little talks’? the one that’s on a credit card commercial for dining points? it’s about youth alzheimer’s. i wouldn’t sweat the deeper meaning by the song writers, that’s not what’s going to come across in the 1-5 mins you play it.

haha reading people’s comments that they also associate the song with death. hmm if it’s commonly thought of as being morbid, well maybe you do want to rethink.

I’ve always interpreted both “What the Water Gave Me” and “Never Let Me Go” to be about drowning, sorry. Cry The one comes right after the other on the album and they kind of go together, to me. But now you’re making me want to listen to Florence and the Machine, because I love them.

@babybee92:  It is also common for churches to refuse to let you use the wedding march because, during the opera, it accompanies the couple into the bedroom, and not down the aisle. Many churches think that it’s inappropriate for you to enter to a song which is basically about sex.

And yes… there’s the anti-semitic aspect to it as well. That music has a disturbing history.

@EffieTrinket:  have you searched around for an instrumental version of it? I love that sound and still think its beautiful even with the sad undertones.

Is it possible to find a version of the song that doesn’t have the words? Instrumental would be awesome, as you’d get your song and the meaning would be less connected. Unless now everytime you hear it you think SUICIDE

For what it’s worth, the song my dad and I are dancing to has a verse about kissing and holding the person (it’s I’m Already There by Lonestar) but the song has a ton of meaning to us (the first verse at least), so we’re just gonna… pretend the words aren’t about that haha.

@EffieTrinket:  Ho hum… quite a mix there… errr… how about…

Lumineers – Ho Hey (I Belong with You)

… I’ve tried Coldplay, Hole, Placebo… but I didn’t realise that most of the lyrics were so dark…

And… just occurred to me… if you are being given away, how about Guns n’ Roses “Sweet Child O’ Mine”? Not as ethreal as you are looking for, but still…

There are others, bu tI’m just not sure about the content…

I can’t think of any specific songs of theirs right now, but I’m thinking Sigur Ros may be a good idea if you’re worried about interpretation of lyrics. Nothing to worry about unless a large portion of your guests speak Icelandic. Also, their music has such etheral sound it’ll play nicely for a processional.
