If you like the mountains, I would say Jackson Hole, WY or even Lake Tahoe.  If you like it cool but near water, I would say Big Sur, CA.  Both have amazing and diverse backdrops

I second Napa Valley or the Central Coast, both very gorgeous.

I always had a vision that if I eloped it would be in Yosemite. I had this idea that my Fiance and I would hike to the top of Half Dome with a friend who became ordained and we would have the service up there. We would bring a walkie-talkie so that our friends and family in the valley could hear us. Ahhh imagine the money we would have saved! Too bad my Fiance is in no condition for that hike, I go alone every year. 😛

@misschickpea:  I dont know if you are still considering but the gazebo in Charleston is in White Point Garden, it is $50 to rent and yes there a limit of 20 people but if you are eloping that really should not be an issue. There are also local beaches that are free and do not really require permits just permission, if that makes sense. We are getting married at White Point on 09/01/12. The only problem I would see with this for you is, typically, here in SC the weather by the nd of Oct is quite chilly, especially on the water, but you nver know around here.

I see you live in Austin, my Fiance and I lived in Harker Heights (near FT Hood) for a little while and there arectually some nice places, especially around Belton Lake to elope.

Check out Niagra Falls, it has a history of being an elopement spot.

Sigh… Carmel California. Or San Luis obispo. Maybe even Catalena… All cool crisp and gorgeous.

@misschickpea:  I’m a Colorado native and there are tooons of gorgeous places in Colorado to get married. My Fiance and I are actually having an intimate wedding with just our parents in September in the mountains. The aspen trees are gorgeous this time of year because they turn gold. The weather is warm in the city but nice and refreshing in the mountains. I may be biased in this, or maybe it’s just because I know the area pretty well, but if it’s something you’d be interested in, I could give you a list of places. Just google pictures of Colorado mountains and see for yourself how gorgeous it is! 🙂

I agree with Newport! It’s GORGEOUS there in the summertime. Cape Cod has some beautiful spots too! I’m from Boston, so I’m biased.

Aside from the northeast, I would totally do Napa or Sonoma. It is incredibly beautiful there, and nothing else in the country that compares.

I agree with Newport, but I’d also suggest San Francisco.  My friend eloped there and has some great photos.

If you are looking for a place in the mountains that is awesome with a lot of stuff to do outside go to bannerelkwinery.com.

It is in the mountains in North Carolina and is absolutely beautiful! They have a gorgeous villa, barn, and blueberry orchid, and other areas to have the ceremony.  They were very helpful and attentive to my needs while planning my elopement.  Every detail was thought of and handled by them- making it so much less stressful than I thought and was able to enjoy our time together there.

I believe Michelle is the person to speak to that handles weddings and elopement packages.

Lake Tahoe, Carmel/Monterey, San Francisco, Napa, and  Mendocino are all great locations in California.

Yosemite! Maybe the Grand Canyon? Or somewhere in Washington, Colorado, or Maine.
