When discussing gifts for the ladies planning my shower, my future Mother-In-Law showed me a hostess gift she received from a friends daughter when she participated in planning the girls shower. It was an adorable plate from this website called Plates for a Purpose (http://www.plateswithpurpose.com/). Aparently part of the cost is donated to a charity that is specific to the plate. For example, hers had a flower on it and the flower plates were tied to the Alzheimers Association. Other plates are tied to charities like:
- AIDS Task Force
- Children’s Hospital of Pgh of UPMC
- Court Appointed Special AdvocatesFamily House
- Food Bank
- Forbes Hospice
- Habitat for Humanity
- National Autism Association
- Persad Center
- United Mitochondrial Disease Foundation
I think it’s a pretty cool idea! Unfortuantely, they’re a little bit too pricey for me (about $40 a piece for the one I was looking at, and I have 7 ladies to buy for) but if you have it in your budget or if you only have a few people to buy for, this could be a really meaningful hostess gift. I suppose it could even be a sweet wedding gift for a friend if they’re not the type to spas about getting something they didn’t register for. I’d imagine if the cause was close to their hearts, they’d really appreciate it!
Just thought I’d pass this along.
PS: As I mentioned, it’s not quite in our budget. Has anyone ever heard of anything similar? Maybe something a little less expensive (other than the typical do-dad with a colored ribbon on it. Something kind of unique that doesn’t scream whatever charity the $ went to, but just happens to be tied to a charity). Thanks!
