My SO and I met at a swing dance they were having at this beautiful ballroom from the 1920’s. A lot of the building is still original (the dance floor/the staircase/the molding) but other parts of the building are being refurbished to look nicer. There’s a beautiful balcony to take pictures, and a nice seating room that they just finished refurbishing. Here’s my dilemma. This ballroom has a lot of sentimental value to us because it’s the place where we met and have since started taking swing dance lessons there. We also attend a swing dance there every Friday night, which has become our special “date night”. The second I found out this venue can host weddings, I knew I wanted to get married there. SO apparently wanted that too, and told me he was thinking about what it would be like to get married there.
There’s one problem. It’s in a terrible area of a city. The ballroom itself is nice, but the area surrounding the balllroom is one step up from a ghetto. I want to get married there for the sentimental value, and because it’s a relatively inexpensive venue that has a lot of DIY possiblities, but I’m not sure if it’s worth it. Parking also worries me, because…there isn’t really any. I mean, I could discuss things like parking with them if we decide to tour this venue, but I just wish the area was nicer. I mean, there aren’t people shooting each other, or homeless people everywhere, but it’s seedier than I would want in any other circumstances.
Did anyone else have this problem?
